Always observe these requirements. Nevertheless, the information regarding the ropes
are not reliable within a 0.2mm margin. Their slipping and ageing degree, as well as exter-
nal factors (intense frost, intense heat, dust) can influence the braking effect.
WORKING PRINCIPLE: Idem Chapter 1 EN 12 841:2006
WARNING:
Pressing on the handle without controlling the free rope from be-
low is dangerous. It is mandatory to practice using the handle release for braking/
locking purposes.
OPERATIONAL TEST
For each use, the user or the climber assess LOV3's suspension and locking effect as well
as its descending capacity. This way, the user or the climber checks the device, and gets
familiar with it.
If the device does not lock, do not use it. Contact the manufacturer – TAZ.
OPERATION:
> descending: once the operational tests are complete, hold the free rope coming out of
the device with one hand, and open and pull the handle of the LOV3 device downwards
(diagram 0)
with the other hand. The desired speed will be attained by adjusting the
traction on the handle, and by braking with the other hand on the free rope coming out
of the device. Do not exceed a speed of 1m/s, otherwise the stainless steel of the sheaves
can overheat and alter the friction, and therefore the locking effect.
> belaying a second climber: After having performed the operational tests, gradually

noeuvre as the normal descent.

slack, hold and never release the hand on the braking rope. Using the other hand to
push the rope on the climber's end, slide the rope through the braking end of the rope
while maintaining the device on the same axis. This manoeuvre is performed to adjust
the slack.
When stopping a fall or descending a climber, always hold the braking end of the
rope, and let the device turn freely by releasing its position on the same axis
to allow the locking/braking functions.
WARNING:
Always hold and brake on the free rope coming out of the device

when performing manoeuvres and movements.
When overgripping the open handle, the user cancels the braking effect of the LOV3 device,
and a fall occurs. It is essential to practice releasing the handle.

When the tool locks on the rope, make sure the handle is properly folded back to avoid
an accidental release. Even with the handle folded back, a significant pressure applied
downwards on the closed handle can exceptionally release it. Pay special attention to this
area. For increased safety, the user can tie a stopper knot.
The operation of the device is optimal when the usage conditions are normal, with low hu-
midity, average temperature (5°C to 25°C), away from sources of dust and grease. When
conditions are not favourable (extreme humidity and heat, rain, frost, dust, grease, etc.),
there is a risk of losing the control while descending, or to damage the rope. Additional
precautions (locking tests, braking aid via a friction connector, speed reduction, building
several anchors for the descent, etc.) should be taken.
There is no limit to the number of descents or the height of the descent. In case of a rescue
though, there is an exception. Please see the downloadable rescue tutorial on taz3d.fr.

EN 341 :2011 Classe C, Descender device for rescue.
Maximum descent energy 0.5 x 10
Either for example 5 persons weighing 100kg, one after the other one on a length of
100m, or 10 persons weighing 100kg one after the other one on a length of 50m. Maxi-
mum usage load 100kg, maximum descent 100m in length.
NORMATIVE INFORMATION: The device is compliant with EN 341:2011 Class C only with
the Cousin rope compliant with EN 1891:1998 Class A Ø10.5mm ref. 1425 with manufac-
tured locked stopper knots from TAZ. The Instructions of Use for the rope are provided with
the rope. The user can buy from TAZ this rope separately from LOV3.
The rope keys in compliance with EN 1891 standard are : sheath slippage Ss 0 mm, Static
elongation E, 2.60 %, Sp sheath mass 38%, C1 core mass, 62% , M mass per meter 65g/m,
R, water shrinkage 2,2 %, fiber polyamide 6 over 0.6 Cn/tex.

WARNINGS:
When used in compliance with EN 341, LOV3 can only be used as a rescue device.
> It is absolutely necessary that the rope is always tight between the anchorage the device
and the transported person without any slack.
