Explanation of the symbols
The lightning symbol inside a triangle is a warning to inform you of potential
risks of personal injury, such as electrical shock.
This symbol indicates specific risks associated with handling, function and
use.
The "arrow" symbol indicates special tips and operating information.
Safety Instructions
T he warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to ob-
serve these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any re-
sulting damage!
W e do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused
by improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such
cases, the warranty will be null and void.
a) General
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is not per-
mitted for safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle the product.
• Any maintenance or repair work may be only performed by an authorised
repair shop.
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could
become a dangerous plaything for children.
b) Wall plug transformer
• The design of the power adapter complies with Protection Class II. Use
only a standard mains socket as the power source for the wall plug trans-
former.
The mains socket into which the wall plug transformer is plugged must be
easily accessible.
• Use only the external power transformer supplied to power the media
converter.
• Do not pull the wall plug transformer from the mains socket by pulling on
the cable. Hold it on the sides of the casing and pull it out of the mains
socket.
• If the AC adapter is damaged, do not touch it; there is a danger to life from
electric shock!
First, switch off the mains voltage to the socket to which the wall plug
transformer is connected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker
or, for example remove the safety fuse or switch off at the corresponding
RCD protective switch, so that the socket is fully disconnected).
You can then unplug the wall plug transformer from the mains socket.
Dispose of the faulty wall plug transformer in an environmentally friendly
way, do not use it any more. Replace it with a wall plug transformer of the
same design.
c) Operation
• The product is not a toy. Devices operated using mains voltage do not
belong in the hands of children. Therefore, be especially careful when
children are around.
Use the product where it is out of the reach of children.
• The product is intended for use only in dry, indoor locations. No part of
the product should become damp or wet; never handle it if your hands are
wet!
Wall plug transformers have the potential to cause a fatal electric shock!
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cable is neither kinked
nor pinched.
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold
room to a warm one. The condensation that forms might damage the prod-
uct under certain circumstances. The wall plug transformer also poses a
risk for a potentially fatal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the
power supply and putting it into use. This may take several hours.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the installation location and dur-
ing transport:
- Excessive humidity or dampness
- Extreme cold or heat, direct sunlight
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found in the vicinity of machinery or
loudspeakers
Connection and Getting Started
Important!
The media converter is set to the static IP address 192.168.2.1 (Subnet
255.255.255.0) at the factory.
If this IP address is already assigned on your network, or if a DHCP server in
your network distributes the addresses automatically (192.168.2.x), this can
lead to the IP address 192.168.2.1 being used twice. In this case, the web
interface of the media converter cannot be reached.
You can also expect problems if your network uses another address basis
(e.g., 192.168.10.x).
In this case, we recommend that the media converter be connected to
only one computer, which is set to the static IP address 192.168.2.2 (Subnet
255.255.255.0).
Then you can configure the media converter through the built-in web inter-
face (e.g., set another IP address).
After saving the new data, the media converter can be connected to your
existing network.
• First, plug your SFP transceiver module (not included, available separately) into one
of the SFP slots.
• Connect the circular low-voltage plug of the wall plug transformer into the corre-
sponding socket on the media converter.
• Plug the wall plug transformer into a mains socket.
• The media converter is set to the static IP address 192.168.2.1 (Subnet 255.255.255.0)
at the factory. If necessary, proceed as described above.
You will need to enter a username and password for access to the web inter-
face. In the factory settings, these are as follows (see also manufacturer's
operating instructions):
Username:
admin
Password:

• After the configuration, connect the connections of the media converter with your
network.
