Note: Electrical appliances consume active power (P) which is the power capable of transforming electrical energy into work, and a reactive power
(Q), which is the power developed in inductive circuits. The apparent power (S) is the square root of the sum of squares the active power and
reactive power. The apparent power (S) is the power that the generator should produce to make the device work. The apparent power is measured
in kVA (kilovoltioamperio) and the active power measured in kW (kilowatts).
Note the power indicated in the majority of electrical appliances is the active power (P) and indication of the reactive power of the device it is
not so, if the value of reactive power of the device is important, you may need a generator with an apparent rated power exceeding the power
indicated on the appliance.

The power Factor is a data indicated on many appliances (especially in engines). If your device shows the
active power (P) and its power factor you can calculate the required apparent power with the following
formula: S = P / f.d.p.
If you do not know the f.d.p of your appliance, please note that electric motors have values between 0.4 and
0.75, for a device with 1kW motor (P) would need a generator 1.4 kVA and 2, 5kVA.
