Oilstop V anti-siphon valve
Technical description
3.2

Functional description

The Oilstop V is a diaphragm-controlled safety device against siphoning. The
product is used to prevent heating oil storage tanks from being siphoned off.
The Oilstop V is variably adjustable to a protection height of 1 to 4 m and can be
set to "entlüften" (bleed) and " absperren" (shut off) for maintenance work.
In the "entlüften" (bleed) setting, the piston is lifted from its seat and the
protection function is overridden. This serves to facilitate bleeding of the suction
pipe during initial commissioning or after maintenance work.
In the "absperren" (shut off) setting, the valve is closed and cannot be opened
with negative pressure. This setting makes it possible to work on the suction
pipe.
The valve is pressure-balanced, i.e. when pressure builds up in the suction pipe,
the valve allows oil to flow back to the tank.

Normal operation

The heating oil feed pump creates a negative pressure in the suction
pipe.
The diaphragm of the anti-siphon device pushes the locking piston out
of its seat against the pressure spring so that heating oil can flow to the
extraction pump. As long as the necessary negative pressure is applied,
the valve remains open.
If the heating oil feed pump is switched off, the vacuum in the suction
pipe drops. This causes the pressure spring to press the locking piston
back into the starting position. As a result, the anti-siphon device is
closed and the suction pipe is shut off.
In case of leakage
If there is a leak in the suction pipe, sufficient negative pressure cannot
build up and the valve remains closed.
