Thank you for choosing the McGuard professional presence sensor from
GROTHE GmbH. This new generation of presence sensors provides you a better
performance in security and comfort and a quick and easy installation. With
the presence sensor you can control your light, heating, air condition, alarm
systems, etc. individually. No waste of Energy – get a higher and more secure
living standard.
General Information
The movement sensors McGuard professional with 120° / 240° / 360° detection
area are passive infrared sensors which react to moving sources of heat (peo-
ple, vehicles). If the movement sensor detects changes to the heat radiation in
its detection area, it switches on, depending on the light value of the load con-
nected (e. g. lighting), for an adjustable duration. If the heat source then exists
the detection area, the movement sensor switches the load off again after a
time you have pre-selected (3sec. – 20min.).
Short-term pulse function (for timers, gongs etc.)
An added feature of the installation is offered by the short –term pulse function;
this can be activated by an integrated potentiometer located underneath the
cover ring of the sensor. This way. e. g. automated stairwell lights in larger buil-
dings can be activated automatically or lights in rooms with changing ambient
light can be operated more energy-efficiently.
Installation / Mounting / Connection
- The optimum mounting height is 3m (minimum height 2,50m).
- The movement sensor McGuard professional can be mounted on the wall ort
he ceiling without additional devices. For ceiling mount, the two part senor
must be turned 180° against itself (Fig. 1).
- With the attached corner adapter is it possible to mount the movement sensor
on interior or exterior corners (Fig. 2).
NOTE:
The movement sensor must always be fastened so that the sensor points
downwards.
Electrical connections:
•
Standard operation (Fig. 3)
•
Parallel connection (Fig. 4)
•
Parallel connection and staircase timer (advice Grothe TA 220D, Fig. 5)
•
Connection with inductors e. g. relays, protectors, ballast equipment (use a
fuse may be necessary, Fig. 6).
NOTES ON SAFETY:
Prior to working an any electrical equipment, always isolate from the electrical
supply (remove fuse / switch off at the main switch). Check that there is no
voltage present. Any installation work must only be carried by a competent
electrician in this voltage-free conditions.
Commisioning and Adjustment
•
After successful mounting and switching on the main supply, the device
carries out a self-test cycle which lasts approx. 30sec.; this signals that the
connected load is switched on.
•
After this period has elapsed, the device is ready for operation. With detec-
tion, the focus LED stays permanently (Fig. 7). In test mode, the focus LED light
up permanently and the load is switched on for approx. 2 sec. In short-pulse
mode, the focus LED blinks and the load is active for 0.5 sec., after that, it is
inactive for 9 sec. The adjustment elements are covered in the housing (Fig. 7).
•
Set the LUX setting to „TEST" (Fig. 7.1). For the adjustment of the detection
area to the local circumstances, you have following possibilities:
•
Horizontal swivelling of the head by approx. +/- 90°. Middle position is indica-
ted by a notch (Fig. 7).
•
Range regulation per sensor field via line on potentiometer (Fig. 7.2). Setting is
indicated visually via the focus LED.
•
Use of the foils for the purposeful hiding of areas (Fig. 8).
•
Setting element on time-duration (Fig. 7.3)
•
On-time duration can be set: Impulse, 3 sec. – 20 min.
•
Short-time pulse function means a switch-on duration of approx. 0,5 sec, follo-
wing by a pause time of approx. 9 sec. In which no movements are detected.
The focus LED is switched on once per sequence for 2 sec. After the pause
time has elapsed, a detected movement starts a new sequence. Suitable, e. g.
for the activation of a gong.
Practical Tips
• Optional function (max. range) is achieved if the mounting is sideways to the
direction of movement (Fig. 9).
• Heed the line of site to the sensor since infrared radiation cannot penetrate
fixed objects.
• In order not to influence the installed light sensor, adhere to a minimum dis-
tance of 1m to the connected lighting and light sources must not be directed
directly at the sensor.
• Consider local circumstances such as neighbour land, distance to the street
or street lighting.
• Unwanted switching on can be triggered, e. g. by small animals or by trees
and bushes moved by the wind in the detection area.
• Through frontal movement towards the sensor, the range can be shortened
significantly (Fig. 10).
