Other game possibilities
• Play the same game with the trailer and 20 passengers.
• Have the bus stop randomly at children with and without passengers.
For example: first three children each add a passenger, then one removes
one, then two children each add another. The children continue to state
how many passengers are sitting in the bus after each addition/removal.
Using the activity cards
The instructor hands out the green bus stop cards and places all the
passengers in the centre of the circle.
One child is asked to determine the number of passengers with which the
bus should start and places that number of passengers in the bus.
That child drives the bus around the circle and stops at 'bus stops' (children with bus stop cards). If the child
has an 'addition card', he or she places that number of passengers in the bus. If the child has a 'subtraction
card', he or she takes that number of passengers out of the bus. After that, the driver can continue to the
next stop.
Note: The children hold their bus stop cards for the group to see. The bus can only stop at a bus stop where
there is a task to carry out.
Variation
• The children hold their bus stop cards so they are not visible for the group. If the task cannot be
carried out, the bus continues to the next stop.
• Play the game without the trailer first, then with the trailer.
• Also add the red bus stop cards.
Using the dice
• Use the dice with pips or numbers to determine how many passengers should embark or disembark.
• Use the dice with pips or numbers combined with the colour die to determine how many red or white
passengers should embark or disembark.
• Use the dice with pips, numbers and symbols to calculate how many passengers should embark and
disembark.
