8. JOI Troubleshooting Guide
Problem
Candle won't stay lit
when door is closed.
JOI won't light.
Candle won't stay lit.
I heard a loud snap and
my JOI snuffed out.
Condensation forming on
the inside of the glass.
Lights aren't as bright as
normal.
Soot or smoke can be
seen rising out of the top
of JOI.
Possible Cause
JOI requires a draft airflow
to be created in order to
work properly.
High humidity slows down
draft airflow.
Safety feature has been
activated.
Candle burning abnormally
has activated the JOI safety
feature.
Water condenses on the
cold glass until it warms up.
Soot build-up on heat
collector.
Using a smaller 2 hour tea
light.
Extreme humidity or poor
quality candle reducing
flame size.
Candle wick is too long.
Candle wick is not in center
of heat collector.

Solution
Wait 45 seconds before
closing the door.
Allow candle to burn longer
before closing door.
Open door and allow unit
to cool until you hear a loud
snap (approx. 5 minutes) as
safety feature resets.
Wait until you hear an
additional snap as safety
feature resets. Change
candle. Clean any soot
buildup. Relight according
to instructions.
Allow candle to continue
burning and condensation
will disappear.
Clean heat collector as
shown in section 5.
Use only 5/8" (16 mm),
4-hour tea light candles.
Replace with fresh candle.
Trim candle wick to 1/4" (6
mm) length.
Replace candle with one
that has wick standing
straight up in the center of
the candle.
