Intended use

The Evaluation unit BAE SA-XE-052-XR-SA39 is used for conducting electrical signals from the intrinsically
safe control circuit to the non intrinsically safe contact circuit. The control circuit supplies energy for a sensor
which uses the type of protection "intrinsically safe" and which is mounted inside gas hazardous areas or
dust hazardous areas. The Evaluation unit BAE SA-XE-052-XR-SA39 is an associated apparatus and must be
mounted outside hazardous areas (gas or dust). The function of the contact circuit is determined by means
of a programming switch. The normal open (NO) function is defined for a sensor, which closes when actuated.

Safety instructions

• If the device is not mounted and operated as described here, there may be hazards for which
the manufacturer assumes no responsibility.
• Only manufacturer trained personnel with sufficient knowledge are allowed to install and
operate the Evaluation unit.
• The safety of any system incorporating the equipment is the responsibility of the assembler of
the system.
• Equipment has only been tested for electrical safety. No evaluation of functional safety and
performance characteristics has been conducted.
• Prior to installation disconnect the system from power supply.
• Comply with the provisions of the instruction manual.
• Comply with the national regulations and installation provisions.
• Sensors connected to the device must comply with the given maximum values.
Installation and operation
• Make sure that the Ex-amplifier is used only in the area of application corresponding
to its Ex marking.
• Install device in a lockable fire resistant control cabinet which ensures pollution degree 2
and provides adequate mechanical protection.
• The installer must use wire type that has a temperature rating ≥ 70°C.
• Install cables according to the applicable regulations and protect them from damage.
• Snap device from the top onto a top-hat rail (DIN EN 60715). For removal press clamping fixture
on the bottom side of the device.
• Observe connecting diagram for wiring.
• Ensure sufficient air circulation by providing a gap of none less than 20 mm to either side of the device.
• Model BAE SA-XE-052-XR-SA39 is to be supplied by SELV circuits that are categorized as "CLASS 2".
• Each supply terminal (15), (16) must be connected to a branch circuit breaker with high
breaking capacity and a rated current of max. 20 A.
• The supply must be connected to an easily accessible disconnecting device which is marked
for this evaluation unit.
• Protect the common contact of the relay (terminal 12) with an external fuse: 5 A (fast reaction)
according to IEC 60127.
• The device meets the EMC requirements for industrial environments. The use in other environments
may require further EMC measures.
• Sensor cables longer than 30 m may require further EMC measures.
• Datasheet, EU type examination certificate and MTTF values are available on request.
