OPERATION
WARNING
The product should never be connected to a
power supply when you are assembling parts,
making
adjustments,
maintenance or when the product is not in use.
Disconnecting the product from the power supply
prevents accidental starting that could cause
serious injury.
BATTERY PROTECTION FEATURES
Ryobi 18 V lithium-ion batteries are designed with
features that protect the lithium-ion cells and maximize
battery life. Under some operating conditions, these
built-in features may cause the battery and the tool it is
powering to act differently from nickel-cadmium batteries.
During some applications, the battery electronics may
signal the battery to shut down, and cause the tool to
stop running. To reset the battery and tool, release the
trigger and resume normal operation.
NOTE: To prevent further shut down of the battery, avoid
forcing the tool.
If releasing the trigger does not reset the battery and
tool, the battery pack is depleted. If depleted, the battery
pack will begin charging when placed on the lithium-ion
charger.
TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK (NOT INCLUDED) (FIG.
2)
Place the battery pack on the tool.
Make sure the latches on each side of the battery
pack snap into place and the battery pack is secured
on the tool before beginning operation.
TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK (NOT INCLUDED) (FIG.
2)
Depress the latches on the side of battery pack.
Remove the battery pack from the tool.
WARNING
Batter y products are always in operating
condition. Therefore, the switch should always be
locked when not in use or carrying at your side.
ATTACHING THE DUST BAG (Fig.1)
Follow these steps to attach the dust bag.
Remove battery pack from tool.
Slide the collar of the dust bag onto the dust port.

prevent damage to the product.
ADJUSTING THE PLANING DEPTH (Fig.3)
Always work from a rough cut to a finish cut. The
approximate setting for rough planing is 0.4 mm.
For finish planing use a setting of approximately 0.
mm. Make test cuts in scrap wood after each adjustment
to make sure that the planer is removing the desired
amount of wood.
Follow these steps to adjust planing depth.
Remove battery pack from tool.
Turn the depth adjustment knob to the desired
setting.
NOTE: To protect the blades during storage,
transporting etc., set the depth adjustment to 0.
STARTING/STOPPING THE PLANER (Fig.4)
Follow these steps to start/stop the planer.
To start the planer—Push the lock-off button and
then depress the trigger switch.
To stop the planer—Release the trigger switch.
PLANING (Fig.5)
Follow these steps to plane.
Clamp the work securely.
Adjust the planing depth. Refer to "Adjusting the
Planing Depth" earlier in this manual.
WARNING
Always use two hands on the tool for any
operation; this assures that you maintain control
and avoid risk of serious personal injury. Always
properly support and clamp the work so that both
hands are free to control the planer.
N
Place the front shoe on the edge of work to be
planed.
NOTE: Make sure the blades are not touching the
work.
Apply pressure to the front handle so that the front
shoe is completely flat on the work.
Start the planer and let the motor reach maximum
speed.
Hold the planer firmly and push it forward into the
work, using a slow, steady motion.
