CARE AND CLEANING
With regular use, mineral deposits from your water naturally build up on the inner components of
your machine, potentially impacting its functioning and the quality of your co ee.
The Clean Filter
icon will appear every 70 cycles to let you know it is time to descale the co ee-
maker and replace the charcoal water lter (see Fig. 7).
When the indicator comes on, you should descale your machine with white vinegar as described
below or using a commercial descaler designed for drip co eemakers according to the manufac-
turer's instructions.

DESCALING YOUR COFFEEMAKER
1. Open the lid of the water reservoir and remove the water
lter carriage (see Fig. 8). Place a paper lter in the lter basket
and close the lter basket door.
2. Fill the carafe to the 6-cup line white vinegar and add cold
water up to the 12-cup line. Pour the mixture into the water
tank and replace the empty carafe on the warming plate.
3. Press the ON/OFF button to start a brewing cycle. Let half of
the vinegar and water solution run through to the carafe and
then press ON/OFF again to stop the cycle.
4. Let the solution sit for at least 15 minutes to soften any
remaining mineral deposits and then press ON/OFF to brew the
remaining solution into the carafe.
5. Empty the carafe, discard the soiled lter, and re ll the water tank with cold water. Run another
full brew cycle, repeating 1-2 more times if needed to eliminate any remaining vinegar odor/taste.
6. Wash the lter basket, carafe, and carafe lid by hand in warm sudsy water or on the top rack of
your dishwasher and rinse and dry thoroughly.
7. Replace the charcoal water lter cartridge according to the instructions on the following page

CARAFE CARE
To reduce the risk of personal injury including burns from hot liquid, it is very important to
observe the following safeguards for proper and safe carafe use.
1. NEVER heat the glass carafe when empty. DO NOT allow all liquid to evaporate from the carafe
while it is on the warming plate.
2. NEVER use the carafe if the glass body or handle are chipped, cracked, loose, or damaged in any
way. DISCARD the damaged carafe. To prevent damage to the carafe, avoid rough handling and
sharp blows.
3. NEVER set a hot carafe down on a wet or cold surface.
4. DO NOT place the carafe on or near a gas or electric burner, in a heated oven, or in a microwave
oven. NEVER attempt to use the carafe on a range top.
5. DO NOT use abrasive scouring pads or cleansers to clean the carafe as they could scratch and
weaken the glass.
