CONTAX D-0643-BUS is a three-phase digital static modular recorder meter of
indirect measurement, with network analyser functions, of both active and reactive
power in three-phase systems of alternating current with a voltage of 3x230/400 V~.
CONTAX D-0643-BUS is a FIXED-type equipment, and it is designed to operate
permanently

in
environments
MEASUREMENT CATEGORY III.
For example: measurements on switchboards, junction boxes, power sockets in fixed
installations and equipment for industrial use with a permanent connection to the
fixed installation.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: Installation and mounting of electrical devices must be carried out by an
authorised professional.
The device must be installed in a switch box or control cabinet in a way that ensures
that the terminals connected to the supply NETWORK ARE NOT ACCESSIBLE after
the installation.
WARNING: THE INSTALLATION MUST INCLUDE an automatic switch, or an
overcurrent protection device of a proper value located over the meter.
IT IS ADVISABLE that the automatic protection switch is conveniently located next to
the equipment and easily accessible to the operator.
The equipment is internally protected against interference by a security circuit.
However, some particularly strong electromagnetic fields may alter its functioning.
Interference can be avoided if the following installation rules are considered:
- The equipment must not be installed near inductive loads (motors, transformers,
contactors, etc.)
- It is advisable to devise a separate line for supply (provided with a network filter if
necessary).
- Inductive loads must be provided with interference suppressors (varistor, RC filter)
When the equipment is installed under normal use conditions, the measuring
terminals stay permanently connected and NOT ACCESSIBLE. No additional
ventilation requirements are necessary.
In such conditions, the equipment is protected against solar radiation, rain and wind
exposures, but neither temperature nor humidity are monitored.
CONNECTION
BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE INSTALLATION, DISCONNECT SUPPLY.
Connect according to circuit diagram.
Restore power with the automatic switch when the device is fully installed.
Class II equipment under correct installation conditions. DOES NOT NEED earthing
protection arrangements.
Respect the direction of the energy in the transformers, as shown in the
diagram

SETTINGS (EXTERNAL CURRENT TRANSFORMERS)
NOTE: This step is necessary for the right display of the installation's real values.
- Supply one of the phases of the voltage circuit
In the equipment
From normal functioning
- Press the Set key during more than 3 seconds until the text "CODE" appears.
- Enter the user code (1234 by default)
Advance through the digits with a short press (the selected digit flickers) and
confirm with a long press.
If an error occurs, the text "Error" appears, and the code is requested again.
Once the correct code has been entered, the text "PASS" appears.
Next, the current value of transformation ratio (0005: 5) appears flickering.
Change the value with a short press (5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250,
300, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5000)
and confirm with a long one, the text "SAVE" appears and it returns to the normal
display.
If there is no pressing for 20 seconds, the screen returns to normal mode.
From a PC
- Wire up Modbus port to a PC
- Open CONTAX D BUS tool on PC
- On the Settings / Ratio screen, enter the suitable value and press the submit
button to record in the equipment.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
When the equipment has been configured (see SETTINGS) the meter will begin
registering the active and reactive power of the three-phase system in question.
The control optical outputs (Red LED) will emit impulses in proportion to the
registered energy, according to the meter's fixed value.
The meter's fixed value is the value that expresses the relation between the energy
registered by the meter and the corresponding value given by the control output. The
meter's fixed value for the control optical output (LED) is 10,000 imp/kWh/kvarh.
Measurement errors
For the error to stay within the equipment class limits (Class 1 Active, Class 2
Reactive), the Current Transformer must be used in its linear operating field, staying
in the interval provided for by UNE-EN 62053-21 and UNE-EN 62053-23, as follows:

When the rated current value is Ib = 1.5 A the measurement error for active power
will be less than ± 1%, and less than ± 2% in reactive power.
For current values under the area limit values (1) the error % is not determined.
Display
The equipment has a 6-digit digital display (MWh/Mvarh or kWh/kvarh, configurable
by MODBUS).
When the meter is switched on, after approximately 2 s with the display completely
on, the firmware version of the equipment is displayed.
Next, the meter's slave address appears and the screens of Hour, Date, Meter
number and Import active energy will appear in succession, approximately every 5 s.
To indicate the pricing period of the meter, 'Tn' is displayed, and 'n' indicates the
period number (1, 2, 3, 4, ...8) of that timeslot.
When the equipment is receiving or transmitting data via Modbus, the
(summer season) symbol flickers.
NOTE: if you wish to see a different screen, advance pressing the Sel key.
NOTE: The displayed parameters can be configured via Modbus.
Modbus Communication (RTU)
The meter has a series RS-485 output.
The data communication system is based on the MODBUS protocol and allows for
connecting to a Master device (PC/PCL...), in a common RS-485 line:
Up to 32 slaves without using signal amplifiers, at a maximum distance of 1000 m;
Up to 247 slaves in groups of 32 separated by specific signal amplifiers.
Communication is carried out in half duplex and only the Master (PC/PLC...) can
initiate communication with slaves of the question/answer type (only one directed
slave). The features of the implemented MODBUS protocol are the following:
Codification type: RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)
Transmission speed (Baud Rate): 19200, 9600, 4800, 2400, 1200, 600, 300 bps
(selectable by the user)
Transmitted byte format: 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 1 parity bit (selecting): none, odd
or even, 1 stop bit
Correction mode: CRC Type (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
The meter factory settings are: 9600, 8 N 1. (Visible on display)
IF THE EQUIPMENT IS USED DIFFERENTLY THAN SPECIFIED, THE PROTECTION
GUARANTEED BY THE EQUIPMENT CAN BE COMPROMISED.
