Avoid repeated or prolonged contact with fuel. Fuel vapors can be ignited by
a spark or flame many feet away. Keep away from flame, pilot lights, stoves,
heaters, electric motors, or other potential ignition sources. Failure to obey this
warning could result in death or serious injury.
The replacement pickup assembly is available in three lengths: 12, 24, and 36 in.

Loosening the pickup elbow

1. If necessary, remove the hose barb from the pickup elbow.
2. Use a wrench to turn the pickup elbow counter-clockwise until loose.
3. Finish loosening the pickup elbow by hand.

4. Remove the pickup tube from the fuel tank.

Reading the tape measure

5. Insert a tape measure into the pickup opening until it rests on the bottom of the
tank.
6. Read the tape measure at the top of the threaded insert on the top surface of the
fuel tank.
7. Subtract 3/4 in. from the measurement and record the results.

In the example in Figure 3, the tape measure reads 12 in. from the bottom of
the fuel tank to the top of the threaded insert. Subtract 3/4 in. from 12 in. The
measurement is 11-1/4 in.

Marking the pickup tube

The length of the standard 12 in. replacement pickup assembly is 12 in. from
the bottom of the external threads on the pickup elbow to the bottom of the
pickup tube.
8. Measure from the bottom of the external threads on the replacement pickup
elbow to the measurement results and make a mark on the pickup tube.
9. At the mark, cut the pickup tube at a 45° angle. The cut should angle towards
the bottom of the pickup tube.

Tightening the pickup assembly
10. Insert the replacement pickup assembly into the opening.
11. Start tightening the threads by hand, then finish tightening with a wrench.

The bottom of the pickup tube should be approximately 1/2 in. off the bottom
of the fuel tank.
