Maintenance
The plug must always be disconnected from the power supply before starting any
maintenance work on the BOM 101!
Damaged cables or defective plugs must be replaced immediately!
Cleaning:
Keep machine clean at all times. The air inlets and outlets in the motor housing must be
kept clear to cool the motor.
Changing the cutter: (Fig. 3)
First draw out the cutter guard. Insert a pin or screwdriver in the hole in the cutter so that it
engages in the hole in the gearbox to hold the cutter in place. Turn the cutter screw
counterclockwise and remove it. Carefully remove the cutter (risk of injury!). Clean the
cutter mount, fit and secure a new KURIS cutter (see arrow for direction of movement).
Countercutter: (Fig. 4)
The condition and position of the countercutter(a) must be checked before fitting a new
cutter; the contact edge must not be worn down. The countercutter should rest lightly
against the outside edge of the cutter. To extend the service life of the countercutter, apply
a drop of oil to the oiled felt pad in the oscillating oiler (c) every day. To replace or turn the
countercutter, remove the screw (b) of the countercutter holder underneath the foot plate.
Remove the headless pin on the left-hand side of the foot plate and take out the
compression spring. Remove the holder with countercutter and insert a new countercutter.
Grinding wheel:
The grinding wheel must be kept clean, otherwise it loses its abrasive effect. It must then
be cleaned with a brush and detergent, such as naphtha.
The wheel must rotate and move easily on its shaft. Clean if necessary and apply a drop of
oil to the shaft.
Gear mechanism: (Fig. 5)
When used regularly, the gear mechanism must be opened, cleaned and relubricated with
KURIS special grease, order No. 40073, every three months, depending on the hardness of
the fabric and thickness of the material. The area under the cutter must be cleared of fluff
every week or as required.
Carbon brushes: (Fig. 6)
Always disconnect the plug from the power supply first!
The carbon brushes must be examined for wear after approx. 100 hours of operation.
Remove the screws in the motor housing and draw the motor housing off to the rear.
Unscrew the locking screw and pull the carbon brush out by its stranded wire. A new
KURIS brush must be fitted if the carbon brush is less than 6 mm long.
