WARNING: When using special control devices with this fixture, follow instructions carefully to ensure N.E.C.
compliance. For more help, contact a qualified electrical contractor. To prevent electrical shock, turn off electricity at
fuse box before installing or servicing this product.
WARNING: Thermal insulation may be installed in direct contact with fixture, but DO NOT install insulation in excess
of eight inches deep above fixture. Greater depth may cause the internally protected ballast to cycle the fixture on
and off.
CAUTION: To complete the installation, choose only UL listed Progress trims from the label (1) inside the housing (3).
The use of any trim not listed in this fixture is a violation of N.E.C. article 110-3(B) and voids all warranties.
NOTE: This fixture comes with replaceable ballast (24). Should the ballast fail contact a qualified electrician to
replace it. If further assistance is required, contact: Warranty Services at: (864) 599-6000.
1. For joist installation: Use the centering notches (4) located on the plaster frame (13) to position the fixture. Extend
the hanger bars (6) and position the alignment tabs (11) underneath the support joist (8) (Fig.2). Drive the affixed
fastener (7) into the support joist (8) to secure the housing. Drive additional fasteners through holes in hanger bars
(6) for alternate support as needed (Fig.2).
2. For suspended ceilings: Using a flat head screwdriver or other tool, bend the integral t-bar mounting tabs (11)
downward to a vertical position (Fig.3). Position the housing over the inverted t-bar (9) (Fig.3). Secure housing to
24
support structure with tie wire (supplied by others) in the holes supplied (10). Secure the housing to the inverted t-bar
with sheetmetal screws (supplied by others) in the holes supplied (20).
3. Locate housing along hanger bar in desired position and, using pliers, squeeze the 4 locking tabs (12) on the
plaster frame (13) tightly over the bars to prevent further housing movement (Fig.2). Hanger bars (6) may be installed
in alternate slots (23) if perpendicular orientation is desired.
4. As desired, hanger bars (6) may be shortened to fit in narrow joist spacings by breaking at the score lines provided
(Fig. 5).
5. Unsnap junction box cover (14) by lifting the leaf spring.
6. Run supply wires through UL listed connectors (supplied by others) in one of the five pryouts (15) on the junction
box (16) or type NM cable (ROMEX) through an opening above the wire retaining plate (17). Connect wires (19) as
shown in Fig. 4 & 5. Replace cover (14).
7. FOR AIR-TIGHT APPLICATIONS: This Progress product is Air-Tight approved per ASTM E283 testing standards
and complies with Washington State Energy Code requirements. To complete the installation of this Air-Tight
product, the opening between the ceiling (22) and housing edge (25) must be sealed by the installer using silicone
caulking, tape, or any other means acceptable to the local code official. Progress accessory gasket kit P8587-01
(purchased separately) can be used for this purpose (See Fig. 6).
8. Select a trim from the wattage label inside the housing. Use only lamp types and wattages approved for the trim
chosen. DO NOT EXCEED MAXIMUM LISTED WATTAGES!
9. Loosen screws (21) to adjust Housing (3) for variations in ceiling thickness. Bottom of Housing should be flush with
ceiling (22) within tolerance. Slot covers (18) can be rotated 180 degrees in thick ceiling applications to maintain
Air-Tight requirements; "V" should be facing outward.
Ceiling Opening is to be 6-7/8" in diameter.
This instruction sheet is intended for use as a Paint Shield. Upon completion of installation, crumple this sheet up and
insert it in the housing to protect the wattage label from paint spray.
INTRUCTION SHEET MUST BE REMOVED FROM FIXTURE PRIOR TO ENERGIZING.
Assembly & Installation Instructions
CAUTION:
Read instructions carefully and turn electricity off at main
circuit breaker panel before beginning installation.
