Siting the Unit
Electric fly killers (EFK's) operate on the principle that flying insects are
especially attracted to UV light. However the efficiency of an EFK can
be affected by the intensity of other light sources, whether artificial or
daylight. It is therefore sensible to mount the EFK where competition
from such sources is minimised.
Do not mount adjacent to windows.
In food areas, mount the EFK close to, but not directly over,
exposed food or preparation surfaces.
Mount the unit above head height and in the case of suspended
mounting, clear of any traffic such as fork lift trucks which may use
the area.
Avoid mounting your EFK in draughts.
Other points to consider: Site units near locations where flies are
likely to gain access, ie: doors opening to the outside, especially
dustbin areas.
For maximum effectiveness, the EFK should be kept switched on
24 hours a day.
!
Warnings:
1. Do not install where dangerous concentrations of flammable gases
or explosive dust is likely to exist.
2. Keep out of reach of children.
3. DO NOT INSTALL OUTDOORS.
4. Guards must be used, when unit powered.
5. Isolate from supply before opening.
6. Maintenance and repair must be undertaken by a competent
person.
Unpacking your EFK Unit
Each unit is carefully inspected and packed. Before discarding the
outer carton, examine for obvious evidence of transport damage.
Remove the unit and pay particular attention to the removal of all
packing materials including the cord set, catch tray and nylon scourer
which is used for cleaning the grid.

Installation
The units are supplied with 2 metres of mains cable as standard. If it is
necessary to extend this lead, this must be done by a competent
electrician. Ensure that once installed, the power lead is adequately
secured.
Suspended Mode
The EFK is supplied ready for suspended mounting and if this is how
you intend to use it, no modification to the unit is needed.
For safety reasons it is recommended that on the suspended units,
each of the hanging chains should be of non-corroding material which
is capable of taking at least 15 kg each. Only welded link chains should
be used in corrosive/damp environments.
Tube or Starter Replacement
Insects are attracted to the unit by UV light emitted by the tube. This
light, which is invisible to the human eye, reduces with time, even
though to the human eye the tube does not appear to change. To
maintain efficiency it is recommended that the tubes are changed every
year.
To remove the tube or starter, proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the power. (
protect you from being injured)
2. Remove the catch tray.
3. Remove the front guard by loosening the fixing screws on the
guards
4. Grasp each tube in turn, rotate approximately 90° in either direction
and withdraw tube to the front of the unit. (Rotate the starter
approximately 45°)
5. To install new tubes, reverse the above procedure.
6. Replace the tube only with the correct type. For example, do not
use germicidal tubes because they operate at a different
wavelength which is hazardous to the eye and skin. Please refer to
the indicated mark on each model for the correct type of tube.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Apart from tube and occasional starter replacement, the only
maintenance is to keep the EFK clean.
*It is recommended that the EFK is cleaned
at least once every other month
Always disconnect from the supply before handling the unit. Empty any
dead insects from the catch tray and remove any which may have
fallen into the bottom of the unit. Clean the killing grid. This may be
facilitated by unplugging it from the unit and wiping with a brush if it is
very dirty. There is no need to remove the front/rear guards.
