Preparing the unit
∙ Open the water reservoir lid and fill the reservoir with the
required quantity of cold water (min. 3 cups).
∙ Be careful not to exceed the maximum water level of 8
(12) cups as otherwise boiling water may be ejected and
cause burns.
∙ Two measuring scales on the water reservoir help you
to find the correct amount of fresh water:
∙ the left scale is for normal-sized cups (around
125 ml).
∙ the right scale is for smaller cups.
∙ Replace the reservoir lid.
∙ Pull out the swing-out filter and remove the filter holder
lid.
∙ Insert a size-4 paper filter into the filter insert, first
folding down the perforated sides of the filter.
∙ Fill with ground coffee
Standard:
Per cup: approx. 6g = 2 tsp. of medium-fine ground
coffee
ECBC:
Per cup: approx. 7.5g of coffee ground according to
ECBC-standard
∙ The amount of coffee used may be altered to taste.
∙ Replace the filter lid and close the swing-out filter.
∙ Fit the drip-through lid on the heat-retaining carafe, then
place the carafe on the base.
Selecting the brewing mode
'Standard'
For brewing a standard coffee with a balanced, soft aroma.
The coffee is brewed at the ideal temperature, with the
water released at intervals.
∙ Prepare the appliance as described in Preparing the
unit.
∙ Press the rotary control
∙ Turn the rotary control until the symbol
ring flashes blue.
∙ Press the rotary control
The light ring shows steady blue.
'ECBC'
∙ To brew a coffee in accordance with the specifications of
the European Coffee Brewing Centre, Oslo (ECBC),
this programme has been certified by ECBC. The
coffee is brewed at regular intervals at the ideal water
temperature (92-96°C) for the perfect brewing time (4-6
minutes), producing a full-bodied, strong aroma.

Timer
To start the brewing cycle at a pre-set time, first prepare the
appliance as described in Preparing the unit. Then set the
desired time:
∙ Turn the rotary control until the symbols
lit.
∙ Use the keys on the display to set the hours and
minutes.
∙ Confirm by pressing the control dial
Now select the desired brewing programme:

The brewing process
∙ The light ring, the main indicator light
are lit.
∙ The water in the reservoir is brought to the boil. With the
water reservoir filled to its maximum capacity, it will take
about 5 minutes to heat the water.
∙ Once the perfect brewing temperature has been
reached the valve inside the water reservoir opens and
the brewing cycle begins.
∙ The 'click' sound indicates that the valve opens and
closes for a perfect brewing result.
∙ The filtered coffee starts flowing into the carafe.
∙ Once the water has passed through, the light ring lights
up briefly. The unit switches off automatically after 5
minutes.
∙ To interrupt the brewing cycle, press the rotary control
again to turn the appliance off.
Hint: When preparing less than 8 cups, the carafe can
be removed and the appliance switched off as soon as
brewing is complete, i.e. when no more coffee comes
out (see Stand-by-mode & switching off).
After the brewing cycle
∙ Remove the carafe from the unit. The non-drip valve
of the filter holder will close and prevent coffee from
dripping onto the base.
∙ To pour coffee, press the jug lid lever downwards.
∙ Should you wish to start several brewing cycles one
after the other, allow the machine to cool down for at
least 5 minutes with the reservoir lid open before re-
using it. Use cold water only to refill the water reservoir.
Caution: Remember that the water reservoir and the
reservoir lid are still hot after the brewing cycle has been
completed and hot steam may escape from the reservoir
when opening the lid (Caution: Danger of scalding).
