Connecting Surround Sound Speakers
If you have a set of Surround Sound speakers (5.1 or 7.1) you may
connect them to the Smart TV32 via an amplifier.
A compatible amplifier may be connected to the orange RCA
connector (S/PDIF output). This connector provides a 5.1 or a 7.1
audio signal (depending on the sound source and settings used).
Alternatively, multiple pairs of amplified speakers may be connected
to the four 3.5mm audio outputs on the underside of the computer
(green, orange, grey and black - the Smart TV32 speakers should
already be connected to the green Line-out jack).
These connections are only used by devices using Windows
Media Center for playback. External devices (such as a
games console) must be connected directly to an amplifier or
other dedicated speakers to benefit from surround sound - if
the device uses the Smart TV32 audio connection only the
built-in stereo speakers will be used.
Alternative Source Signals (Video and Audio)
Many of the functions of the Smart TV32 are handled through the
Windows Media Center
interface. However certain devices (such as
a games console or an HDMI compatible player may use the alter-
native source connectors to access the screen and speakers directly.
The connectors at the top of the
left-hand side of the Smart TV32
allow you to connect these alter-
native sources. These are:
A. RCA audio (A1) and Compo-
nent video (A2).
B. HDMI video/audio.
C. SCART
video/audio
(see
Connecting a Games Console
(or similar device)
, below).
The audio connection provided by these connectors uses the
Smart TV32's stereo speakers. It you wish to use a different
sound output (such as an amplifier), you should separate the
audio and video signals with an appropriate cable and con-
nect the audio signal directly to the alternative device.
The connection provided by the second SCART connector is
for devices that provide television signals, see Connecting a
Set-top box, above.
Changing the Source Signal
Use the Source button on the remote
control (or front panel) to change the
source signal shown on the screen.
HDMI - Uses an HDMI signal connected to
the HDMI port.
YPbPr - Uses the Component Video and
RCA audio connections .
SCART (x3) - Three SCART modes are
available, depending on the type of signal
being used. Select the option that gives the best image quality.

Connecting a Games Console (or similar device)
A dedicated SCART connector allows you to use the Smart TV32
screen directly. This provides the fastest response times for the best
gaming experience.
If you require stereo sound from the games console, the SCART
connection may be used to carry the audio signal.
