1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Types SV1 and SV2 are "safety devices" according to the definition given in Article 2, paragraph 4 of Directive 2014/68/EU and are the subject of Article 4, paragraph 1, letter d of aforesaid Directive. Their function is to protect the equipments such
as evaporators, condensers, liquid accumulators, liquid receivers, oil separators, positive displacement compressors, heat exchangers and simple unfired pressure vessels (ref. to Directive 2009/105/CE) to against possible overpressures with
regard to the operating conditions for which they have been designed. SV1 and SV2 are unbalanced standard direct loaded safety valves. Valve opening is determinate by the thrust exerted by the fluid pressure on the surface of the disc, when said
thrust exceeds, under setting condition, the opposing force of the spring acting on the disc.
2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION
Read carefully these instructions for a safe installation.
2.1 Safety valve installation shall be carried out only by qualified personnel, trained to operate in compliance with the standards in force in the country where the installation is performed. The sizing and the selection of the valve suitable for the
operating conditions are entrusted to a qualified person expert in the subject.
2.2 Safety valves shall be installed near an area of the plant where vapours and gases are present and there is no fluid turbulence; the position shall be as vertical as possible, with cap vertically facing up (Fig.1). The coupling, if any, between the
valve and the equipment to be protected shall be as short as possible; furthermore, it shall not have a passage section inferior to valve inlet section. In any case the pressure drop, at certified discharge capacity, shall be less than 3% of the set
pressure.
2.3  After unpacking the valve, verify that there are no visible signs of damage, due to transport or handling, and whether the seal  in Fig.1 is undamaged. Check that the inlet  and outlet  connections in Fig.1 are not accidentally
obstructed by foreign objects.
2.4  Make sure that the specifications on the label of the valve are compatible with those of the plant; in particular, verify that the set pressure and the discharge capacity are adequate for the expected values for the equipment to be protected.
2.5  For a proper and safe installation, always use suitable tools and protective devices: for tightening the valve on the equipment to be protected, act exclusively on the hexagon at the bottom of the body near the inlet connection.
2.6 The choice of the safety valve location shall take into account that valve operation involves the relief of refrigerant fluid under pressure, at high temperatures and sometimes even flammable. In case of installation in enclosed rooms, where the
risk exists to cause direct damages to persons nearby, the following precautions shall be envisaged:
2.6.1  A pipeline to convey fluid relief outside of the room; the dimensions and geometry of pipeline shall not be such as to compromise valve operation: it shall not generate, at certified discharge capacity, a back pressure exceeding by 10%
the set pressure. It is advisable to check these conditions.
2.6.2  When installing a conveying pipeline is not possible, it's a good practice to provide for an adequate ventilation of the room and indicate, by means of special signals, the presence of the relief outlet. Furthermore, make sure that valve
does not occur near electric panels or equipment, open flames or heat source.
2.6.3 External supports or relief conveying pipelines shall transmit no reaction force or torque to the valve.
2.7 If the location of the valve or the discharge of the conveying pipe are outdoors it is necessary to provide adequate protection from atmospheric agents, avoiding the entry of dirt, foreign objects and water with consequent formation of ice.
2.8 Avoid locating the valve in narrow spaces, which may complicate inspection operations by competent bodies and make replacement operations, if any, less comfortable.
2.9 It is not advisable to install safety valves on long pipelines or apparatuses subjected to vibrations not adequately damped or such as to induce mechanic resonance phenomena.
2.10 When used with refrigerants proper to group 1 as defined by PED observe the installation requirements of mandatory reference standards of systems and equipment.
3. WARNINGS AND APPLICATIONS
 As required under the European standard, the safety valves after the discharge are designed for re-close and prevent further flow of fluid after normal pressure conditions of service have been restored. Nevertheless it is advisable to replace
valve once it has discharged because during release, piping debris, as metal shavings or solder impurities, can place on the valve gasket and then, inhibits the safety valve from reseating at its originally conditions.
3.1 Danger of cold scald or hot scald! Use suitable protective devices. Before replacing the valve, make sure that the plant, in the area where operations are being carried out, is not under pressure or at a high temperature. Consider the
flammability hazard when working on the system or on the valve.
3.2 The safety valves are suitable for fluids such as air, nitrogen and refrigerant fluids, in the physical state of vapour or gas, proper to the Group 1 or 2 as defined in Article 13 of Directive 2014/68/UE. In particular the fluids compatible are listed in
Annex E of EN 378-1, among these the most used are: R22, R134a, R404A, R407C, R410A, R507, R32, R1234yf, R290, R600, R600a, R1150, R1270. The s afety valve is not suitable for liquids; for equipment containing liquid with vapour,
install it in the vapour area away from the liquid surface.
3.3 Stress due earthquakes, loads due to winds, stress from fatigue have not been taken into account in the design of the valves. If the maximum operating temperature is exceeded or in case of external fire, the seal seat of safety valve will be
damage and the valve will automatically discharge.
3.4 Valve inadequate setting, compared with the plant operating pressure, or undersizing in comparison with the flow rate to be discharged, don't meet the necessary safety requirements for valve proper operation.
3.5 Unbalanced safety valves cannot release with superimposed back pressure, for instance, in the low-pressure side of a refrigerating plant.
4. MAINTENANCE
ATTENTION! Maintenance is not envisaged for safety valves. Cap removal or seal tampering are considered unauthorized changes of setting; this involves the lapse of the manufacturer's warranty.
4.1  Safety valves inspection operations are entrusted to Competent Body and regulated by the standard in force in the country where the installation is performed.
1. DESCRIZIONE GENERALE
e competente in materia.
(Fig.1).
