7. Installing the automatic valve from kit No.2
• There will be holes on either side of the unit. But the automatic valve should be installed only on the left side of the unit.
• The automatic valve will be supplied as a loose piece and need to be installed with the humidifier body.
• Install the automatic valve by placing the valve inside the humidifier body and fastening it with a flat washer and hexagonal lock nut
from outside the humidifier body.
• Make sure that the valve splash guard is placed parallel with the two ribs of the humidifier body.
• The desirable water level in the water pan is 3/4" from the top of the water pan. Tighten or loosen the hexagonal locking nut to indirectly
adjust the water level in the water pan
8. Preparing the water pan
The DS-2800 is supplied with an overflow protection tube to be installed in the hole of the pan. Although we strongly recommend using it, if you don't want
to take advantage of the overflow feature or if you don't have a floor drain, leave the factory installed vinyl cap on the spigot.
• Install the overflow tube through the hole in the pan.
• Install the O-ring around the screw part that sticks at the outside of the pan, then the plastic
washer.
• Secure the overflow tube to the water pan with the plastic nut, without stripping.
9.Installing the water pan into the humidifier
•
Slide the water pan into the humidifier, between the two plastic rails located at the sides of the unit.
•
Slightly open the sides of the humidifier and insert the two side tabs of the water pan into the two rectangular holes in the sides of the
humidifier.
•
Push the front of the water pan down to snap the two tabs in the sides of the humidifier.
10. Installing the floor drain tube to the humidifier
•
Push one end of the drain hose onto the spigot of the overflow tube or the draining system . The other end MUST be connected to a floor drain.
Please install the tubing as vertical as possible and do not leave bends or loops where water could accumulate, thus allowing minerals to build-up in the tubing.
•
The housing of the DS-2800 draining system is designed to protect against failure. Any overflow would be drained immediately.
Please ensure that operations 11, 12 and 13 are completed in sequence.
11. Connecting the supply tubing to the humidifier
The plastic tubing MUST be kept away from hot surfaces (e.g. the warm air duct or the exhaust vent). Also,
measure carefully before cutting the plastic tubing.
• Slip the brass compression nut onto the plastic supply tube, then the nylon sleeve with its most tapered end
towards the end of the tube. Finally, install a brass insert into the end of the plastic tubing.
• Push the supply tube fully into the brass compression fitting. Tighten the brass compression nut with small
wrenches, without stripping, using the double wrench method to apply the torque on the fitting only.
• Although using the supplied plastic tubing is recommended, it is also possible to use copper tubing if this is
already installed from a previous installation. In this case, it is recommended to cut 1'' from the existing tube to
start a new installation. Copper tubing does not need a brass insert. After having tightened the brass
compression nut firmly by hand, just add three quarters of a turn with a small wrench.
Brass
Nylon
•
Fit the second brass insert (1/2" long, supplied with the brass valve) into the end of tubing.
•
Push the tubing fully into the supply valve. Then tighten the brass compression nut with a small wrench.
•
Turn the valve handle completely clockwise until it stops. This will pierce the copper pipe and close the valve.
•
This saddle valve is designed to be fully open or closed. Do not use it to regulate the water flow.
Note : The brass sleeve supplied with the brass valve is to be used only if the plastic tubing is replaced by copper tubing (optional).
However, using a PEX tubing instead of plastic tubing is not recommended.
14. Installing the drum
•
The drum shaft has a flat end that fits into the motor. The opposite end of the shaft snaps into position
in the centre of the air collar.
15. Humidifier start-up
•
Plug the transformer and slowly turn the humidistat control knob to the maximum setting. You should hear a click
and the humidifier drum should start turning slowly (approximately 1 revolution per minute).
•
THE DRUM CAN ROTATE IN EITHER DIRECTION.
•
Carefully check that both ends of the water supply tubing are firmly held in place by their respective compression
fitting.
•
Check that the water level in the pan is at the right level and that the float closes the automatic valve completely.
•
After peeling off the backing, affix the face plate to the cover of the humidistat and re-install the control knob.
•
Set the humidistat to a median value (40 %).
•
Make sure that there is no leak before leaving the installation unattended.
•
Make sure that the peg located at the end of the drum comes in contact with the paddle wheel at every turn.
•
Make sure that the drain tube has no bends, loops or kinks and that the drained water flows easily to the floor drain
without accumulating in the tube.
16. Controlling the humidity level
•
A relative humidity environment of 40% is recommended. However, you should take the outside temperature into consideration before setting the humidity level in order
to avoid condensation on the windows. Please refer to the table on the humidistat face plate to help determine the proper level.
•
Each adjustment of the humidistat should be followed by a period of 24 hours to allow the general humidity level to stabilize in the house.
•
If your house remains unoccupied during the winter season, adjust the humidistat t a lower set point to prevent condensation.
17. Humidifier maintenance tips
•
Neither stop nor rotate the drum manually. Do not remove the drum when it is rotating as it may cause permanent damage to the motor.
•
Check the evaporator pad yearly and replace it if required.
•
Depending on the water quality, the water pan and the float should be cleaned once a month.
•
The draining system should also be cleaned once a year. Remove the screws at the top of the plastic box and carefully pull the little plunger. Wash the plunger and the inside
of the box with a little brush. Then re-assemble the draining unit in the reverse order.
18. Summer season shut down
•
If your system is used for air conditioning during the summer, reduce the air volume going through the humidifier by closing the air damper.
1 - Close the water supply valve.
2 - Turn the humidistat knob to the "OFF" position.
3 - Unplug the transformer.
4 - Empty and clean the water pan.
12.
Installing the supply valve on a copper pipe
A plastic bag contains the brass valve and all the material required to install the water supply valve. Water is taken from the nearest cold
water pipe suitable for the supply valve installation. Shut off the main water valve. The saddle valve supplied is for an installation on copper
pipe only. If the house is equipped with plastic tubing, you will have to install a special ''humidifier'' valve or do the water take-off at the hot
water tank where there are generally two pieces of copper tube of approx. 12' to 24''. Choose the cold water tube.
Caution : Please make sure that the piercing needle is completely recessed into the valve body by turning the handle counter clockwise.
•
Assemble one side of top clamp to bottom clamp with a screw and a nut.
•
Make sure that the rubber gasket is in place over the piercing needle and position the valve assembly on the copper water line.
•
Assemble the other side of the top clamp to the bottom clamp with the remaining screw and nut.
•
Tighten the two screws so that the valve is firmly attached to the water pipe. The two sides of the clamp must be parallel.
13.
Connecting the water supply tubing to the supply valve
•
Slip the brass compression nut onto the plastic tubing, then the nylon sleeve with its most tapered end towards the end of tubing.
