INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR
RESERVE CYLINDER ADAPTER
Failure to follow these instructions may result in an explosion or
fire that may cause property damage, serious injury or death.
1. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION AND USE of this reserve cylinder adapter. Installation or
disconnection of reserve cylinder adapter and leak testing must take place outdoors in a well ventilated area only
2. DO NOT make modifications to this reserve cylinder adapter, if this reserve cylinder adapter does not fit return to
place of purchase and obtain the correct fittings for your particular installation configuration..
3. Examine the reserve cylinder adapter for damage. If damaged return to original place of purchase and exchange for a
complete new reserve cylinder adapter
CONNECTING OF RESERVE CYLINDER ADAPTER
4. Turn burner control knobs of all appliances to "off" position. Turn propane supply "off" by turning propane cylinder
valve clockwise.
5. Connect the female cylinder thread connection of the reserve cylinder adapter to a male cylinder thread connection
by inserting the guide nipple into the male fitting. Hand tighten the fitting clockwise.
6. DO NOT connect male POL fitting if nipple-O-ring is missing from it or damaged. Obtain and install a new nipple-O-
ring prior to connecting male P.O.L. fitting to female P.O.L. fitting of reserve cylinder adapter.
NOTE: The connection at the female P.O.L. fitting is a left hand thread. Turn the male P.O.L. fitting
counterclockwise to connect the fitting to the reserve cylinder adapter.
7. Connect the male P.O.L. fitting to the female P.O.L. fitting of the reserve cylinder adapter by turning male P.O.L. fitting
counterclockwise until hand tight. Use a correctly sized wrench or plastic hand wheel if equipped to tighten..
If you cannot complete a final connection, disconnect the fitting and repeat appropriate steps 5 or 7. If you are still
unable to complete these connections, do not use this reserve cylinder adapter. Consult your local propane gas dealer.
CHECK FOR LEAKS
8. Before lighting your appliances, check all connections for leaks using a mild soapy water solution. DO NOT use
matches, lighters or flame to check for leaks, you could cause an explosion.
9. With the appliance burner controls turned "off", slowly open the reserve propane cylinder valve by turning the handle
counterclockwise. Apply mild soapy solution to all connections and look for bubbles. A expanding bubble or bubbles
indicate a leak. Repair all leaks prior to lighting appliances.
10.If you cannot stop a leak by additional tightening of the connection turn "off" the propane cylinder valve. Disconnect
the leaking connection and re-install as per applicable steps 5 to 7. Recheck for leaks as per steps 9 and 10.
To prevent fire or explosion hazard when leak testing:
(1) NO SMOKING. DO NOT use or permit sources of ignition in the area while conducting a leak test.
(2) Conduct leak test outdoors in well ventilated area.
(3) DO NOT use matches, lighters or flame to check for leaks.
(4) DO NOT use appliances until any leaks are corrected
(5) If you are unable to stop a leak, shut-off the propane supply at the cylinder valve. Disconnect the reserve cylinder adapter by
following steps 14 and 15. Call a Gas Appliance Serviceman or your local propane gas supplier.
11.Consult the appliance manufacturers lighting instructions for correct lighting procedures of your particular appliances
DISCONNECTION OF RESERVE CYLINDER ADAPTER:
12.Turn burner control knobs of all appliances to "off" position. Turn propane supply "off" by turning propane cylinder
valves clockwise.
Note: The connection at the female P.O.L. fitting is a left hand thread. Turn the male P.O.L. fitting clockwise to
remove the fitting from the reserve cylinder adapter.
13.Use a properly sized wrench or plastic hand wheel if equipped to disconnect the male P.O.L. fitting from the reserve
cylinder adapter by turning male P.O.L. fitting clockwise.
14.Disconnect the female cylinder thread fitting of the reserve cylinder adapter by turning the reserve cylinder adapter
counterclockwise.
