Troubleshooting
Electric motors and picture tubes in TV's or computer
monitors draw a very high surge current when starting.
TV's may take several tries before starting. Electric motors
may draw 4 or more times the running current to start, so
the surge capacity of the inverter must exceed the
requirement to be used successfully
Good electrical connections are important. Cigarette lighter
sockets should be clean; otherwise the plug could
overheat and melt. Battery posts need to be free of
corrosion. Poor connections reduce the voltage to the
inverter, and that will reduce power output. Also, poor
connections create heat that can cause damage.
The inverter will run warm, especially under full load. Make
sure that the inverter is exposed to cooling air, and the fan
is not obstructed. Too large a load will cause the protection
circuits, electrical overload and thermal shutdown, to shut
down the inverter. These circuits will reset when the
overload is removed or the inverter cools down. You will
need to either reduce the circuit load or get a larger
inverter if this happens often.
The inverter can draw very high current from the battery
causing the battery to discharge quickly. Automotive
batteries are not designed for use with high current
accessories unless the battery is used in a vehicle with the
engine running.
