General notes
The PC card supplies power to connected devices. The
maximum power supply depends on the laptop used. If
one of the USB devices does not function properly, we
recommend that you connect an external power supply
unit to the power supply socket on the front of the USB
2.0 PC card.
Please note: use only switching power supply units with
the following specifications (we recommend Hama item
no. 46611):
• Voltage: DC 5 V, at least 1,000 mA power rating
• Polarity: outer negative (-) and inner positive (+)
Caution: Failure to observe the above warning can cause
damage to the card, laptop and/or USB device.
Software installation
Windows Vista and 7:
Save and close all other programs running on your laptop
before you start installing the software.
Start your laptop and log on to Windows Vista as an
Administrator or as a user with administrator privileges.
After the operating system has loaded completely, insert
the Hama USB 2.0 PC card into your laptop. Windows
Installation Assistant starts and recognises the hardware
automatically and integrates the required drivers in your
system in the background. Please wait until a balloon tip
appears in your notification area that informs you that
the hardware has been successfully installed and that
you can now use it. The Hama USB 2.0 PC card cannot be
used until this message has appeared.

You can check whether the PC card controller was
installed properly under Start (Windows logo) -> Control
Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Device Manager.
In some circumstances, you may be asked by User
Account Control for your permission to continue. Click ->
Continue. Now check the following entries, which should
be present without yellow exclamation marks.
USB Controllers
• Nec PCI to USB Open Host Controller
• Nec PCI to USB Open Host Controller
• Standard enhanced PCI to USB Universal Host
Controller
• USB root hub
• USB root hub
Windows XP with Service Pack 3:
Save and close all other programs running on your laptop

Important instructions for Windows XP
You can check whether the PC card was properly instal-
led in Device Manager. To do so, click -> Start -> Control
Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System. In
the System Properties window, select -> Hardware ->
Device Manager. The following entries must appear in
the USB Controllers section without a yellow exclamation
mark.
