Installing the smoke detector
Choosing the best place
For optimum protection, the smoke
detector should preferably be placed:
• in premises where there is a fire
hazard (offices, corridors, etc.),
• in each room, particularly on the
ceiling in the centre,
• at a distance from ventilation grilles
that could spread smoke,
• more than 20 cm away from obsta-
cles (walls, partitions, beams, etc.),
• far away from potential sources of
electrical interference (electricity

Smoke detectors

• if it is fixed to a metal wall, insert a
shim made of non-magnetic material
(wood or plastic),
• at either end of corridors more than
10 m long,
If the smoke detector cannot be fixed
to a horizontal ceiling, fix it:
• 15 to 25 cm away from the ceiling,
• more than 60 cm away from the
corners of the room.
