Functional test
During normal operation the red LED next to the "TEST" button flashes briefly every 40 seconds.
• To test the alert tone, hold down the "TEST" button for a couple of seconds. The wireless smoke
detector emits a short beep and both LEDs flash. This indicates that the smoke detector and the
batteries are functioning correctly.
If no alarm is audible, or if the LEDs do not flash, the batteries may be dead. Replace the batter-
ies and perform a new functional test. If this does not help, replace the wireless smoke detector.
It is strongly recommended that the wireless smoke detector is tested weekly to ensure
proper operation.
A functional test of the radio transmission is made by blowing cigarette smoke, for ex-
ample, into the wireless smoke detector. Accessory retailers offer special test sprays
for smoke detectors. Here are all wireless smoke detectors of the group (the single
"Master" wireless smoke detector and all of the programmed wireless smoke detector
"Slaves") must set off an alarm.
Establishing an escape plan and practising for an emergency
• Create a plan of your apartment or your house that shows all the doors and windows, and allo-
cate two escape routes for each room, if feasible. A rope ladder may be necessary for windows
on the second-floor.
• Call a family meeting in order to discuss the escape plan and explain to each person what to do
in case of fire/smoke.
• Arrange for a meeting place outside of your home.
• Familiarize everyone with the alarm of the wireless smoke detector; everyone must know that
when this sound is heard, everyone must leave the house immediately.
• Practice a smoke/fire drill at least every 6 months. Exercises will help you to put your escape
plan to the test before an actual emergency situation may arise. It may happen that you cannot
reach your children in a case of fire. It is important that they know too, what to do and how to
behave.
What to do in case of an alarm?
• When one of the wireless smoke detectors of a group (the single wireless smoke detector
"Master" and all programmed wireless smoke detector "Slaves") detects smoke, all wireless
smoke detectors of that group will set off a loud alarm.
The alarm stops when the air is free again from smoke.
• In case of an alarm leave the home or the house immediately following the escape plan you
have created. Every second counts; do not waste time by getting dressed or trying to take your
valuables with you.
• Do not open any door without first touching the surface. If the door is hot, or if you see smoke
coming in from under the door, do not open the door! Use the alternative escape route instead.
If the surface of the door is cool, press your shoulder against it, open the door slightly and be
ready to slam it back again, if heat and smoke penetrate from the room behind it.
• If the air is filled with smoke, stay close to the floor. Breathe through a cloth (if possible) mois-
tened with water.
• When you have left the apartment or the house, go to the agreed meeting place and make sure
everyone is there.
• Call the fire department from the house of your neighbour; do not call from your own!
• Do not go back into the apartment or the house until the fire brigade consents.
Nuisance alarm
Cigarette smoke or steam produced while cooking can active the wireless smoke detector. Nui-
sance alarms are also possible in case of exposure to dust when grinding (e.g. when renovating a
room) and if too much hair spray/deodorant is sprayed in a room, or similar.
Smoking in a room will not set off the wireless smoke detector in general; only if the
smoke is blown directly towards the smoke detector it will trigger an alarm.
If the wireless smoke detector gives an alarm, check first whether the fire is real. If fire or smoke
is discovered, alert your family, and everyone must leave the building. Call the fire department. If
there is no fire or smoke, check whether the above-mentioned reasons could have triggered the
alarm.

Maintenance and cleaning

Apart from the occasional battery change, the product is maintenance-free.
Clean the product with a soft, clean, dry cloth.
Dust on the wireless smoke detector can be easily removed with a soft, clean, long-haired brush
or a vacuum cleaner; this should be done in rooms with a high dust load (e.g. in a bedroom) at
least once a year.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or solvents; this may damage the housing or may be impair
operation.
For security reasons, after an operating period of 8 years the smoke detector must be replaced
with a new one.
Declaration of conformity (DOC)
We, Conrad Electronic SE, Klaus-Conrad Straße 1, D-92240 Hirschau (Germany), hereby declare
that this product conforms to the fundamental requirements and other relevant regulations of the
1999/5/EC directive.
The declaration of conformity for this product is available at:

Range
The radio signal transmission range between two wireless smoke detectors is up to 60 m under
optimum conditions.
This value, however, is the so-called "open space range" (the range when transmitter
and receiver are in line of sight, without any interference).
In practice, however, there may be walls, room ceilings, etc. between the transmitter and the
receiver which will reduce the range accordingly.
Due to the different influences on the radio transmission, no specific range can be guaranteed.
However, trouble-free operation is usually possible in a single family house.
Sometimes the range can be considerably reduced due to:
• Walls, reinforced concrete floors, drywall walls with metal frame construction
• Coated/metallised insulated glass
• Proximity to metallic & conductive objects (e.g. heating elements)
• Proximity to human bodies
• Other devices on the same frequency (e.g. wireless headphones, wireless speakers)
• Proximity to electric motors/appliances, transformers, power supplies, computers
Disposal
a) General
Please dispose of the product at the end of its service life according to the relevant
statutory requirements.
Remove any batteries inserted and dispose of them separately from the product.
b) Disposal of used batteries
As a consumer you are legally bound (battery ordinance) to return all used batteries; disposal in
the household waste is prohibited!
Batteries containing hazardous substances are labelled with the symbol opposite in-
dicating that disposal in the domestic waste is forbidden. The symbols of the critical
heavy metals are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead.
You can return your used batteries at collection points of your community at no cost or wherever
batteries are sold!
That way you fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment!
