Safety regulations
Always follow the safety regulations according VBG 16
compressors, especially paragraphs IIIc "assembly", IV
"Operation" and VGB 4 "Electric Facilities and Manufacturing
Resources".
Alterations and changes regarding the side channel
compressor may only be executed in accordance with the
manufacturer.
As a result of the air compression high tem-
peratures up to 125°C are generated. The side
channel compressor must be set up in a position
where hot surfaces cannot be touched. Alterna-
tively take measures to protect the operations
area or put up warning signalization.
Application according to regulations
This side channel compressor has been approved to operate
in areas with explosive atmosphere characteristics;
In category 3: rarely and only during short time periods
In category 2: occasional occurrence
The SV 5... models are equipped with a motor applying to
RL 94/9 EU.
The side channel compressor is used to generate negative
pressure (vacuum) or over pressure.
Characteristic data displayed on the name plate is valid up
to a level of 800m above sea level.
The device is suitable for the conveyance of non-explosive
compounds. The development of an explosive atmosphere
inside the side channel compressor must be avoided. The

device is not suitable for the conveyance of toxic or flam-
mable substances.
The side channel compressor is only designed for the suc-
tion of normal atmospheric air. Should dusty substances be
conveyed, use intake filter and service regularly.
The conditions for use mentioned within the technical data
must be followed at all times.
Obvious misapplication
Application of the device is not allowed:
- if explosive gases are frequently or permanently to be
found within the environmental conditions.
- explosive dust is frequently or permanently to be found
within the environmental conditions.
- where the intake of gases or dust permanently, frequently
or occasionally lead to an explosive status.
- beyond the conditions of application mentioned within the
technical specifications.
It is imperative that the outlet air does not exceed a
temperature of 125°C.
Transport and storing
Keep the side channel compressor dry at all times and
protect of shower water.
Only lift and transport the device with the appropriate
transport belts.
Installation
It is advisable to install the side channel compressor in a po-
sition where future maintenance can be easily executed..
Clearance between the device and surrounding walls should
be at least 10cm to ensure that the air circulation for the
cooling process is not affected in a negative way.
Protect against dust.
The surrounding temperature of the side channel compres-
sor may not rise above 40°C and may not drop below -20°C.
This is also imperative for the conveyed medium.
The Position of the side channel blower should ideally be
horizontal and with a solid base.
If the side channel blower ist installed in a vertical position
please pay special attention to the area between the hood
and the surface the unit stands on. This area must be
protected from dust (by e.g. regular Maintenance or cleaning
of the surface the unit stands on.)
Operating Conditions
It is imperative to avoid surface temperatures exceeding
125°C.
Further, the device must be operated within the pressure
limits displayed on the name plate. Additionally, the permit-
ted range of the surrounding temperature must be taken
into account.

Assembly
Pay attention to proper dimensioning and clean tubes.
Protect the device from penetration by objects of any
form.
Make sure the minimum diameter of the connecting tubes
must be identical to the screw thread of the connections
on the device.
When exceeding a line length of 2 meters use next bigger
diameter.
Keep connections clear of oil, grease and other dirt.
Remove protection caps from points DA and SA.
Do not yet connect to the tube network.
Power supply connection
Pay attention to all corresponding regulations when
connecting the compressor to the energy supply. The motor
has to be connected according to the connection diagram
which is placed in the terminal box. Alternatively connect the
motor by use of prefabricated plugs. The connection may
only be executed by qualified personnel.
Pay attention to connection voltage and frequency.
Arrange the motor protection and adjust to the nominal
voltage of the motor (data to be taken from the motor
identification label).
Start motor and check rotating direction (arrow
on body). If the rotating direction should not be
correct, please change phase.
It is forbidden to operate the side channel compressor in
connection with a frequency converter.
Within the surrounding all metal parts of the devices must
be earthed. This is especially important when using rubber
buffers.
Suitable earthing straps or cables must be connected by a
qualified specialist.
Initial operation
Make sure the pressure pipe is firmly and stably connected
to DA or the suction pipe is connected in the same way
to SA. Avoid mechanic bracing which may arise due to
pipe connections or body attachments by using elastic
interconnections.
Compensators and lines must be inspected regularly for
damages and if so must be exchanged.
If there is a possibility of explosive substances penetrating
the compression area while the device is not in use
precautions have to be taken by the customer side to
effectively avoid this scenario.
Clogged or polluted filters can result in abnormal operation
temperatures (in this case service the device). These
temperatures may also be caused by to high pressure
difference.
Surface temperatures exceeding 125°C must be avoided
at all times.
Additionally the side channel compressor must be operated
only within the pressure limits displayed on the type label and
within the stated temperature limits of the surrounding.
Maintenance
By regularly servicing your side channel compressor
the operating results will be optimized. Maintenance
intervals depend on the frequency of use and the specific
environmental factors.
Disconnect the engine from the energy supply
before starting maintenance routine. At the
same time make sure an accidental re-start of
the engine is impossible.
To avoid the exposure to hot surfaces wait at least 60 minutes
before opening pipes or pump body.
Overheating due to dust sediment can be avoided by
regularly cleaning the fan cover and the surfaces of the
compressor.
Exchange motor bearings after 4 years or 20.000 operation
hours.
Appliances
Accessories are available for numerous problem solving
scenarios: e. g. filters, compensators and silencers.
Silencers must be installed with the filter cartridge in a
horizontal position to avoid dust pollution of the compressor
during service.
Clean the filter cartridges according to dust pollution (on a
daily to weekly basis).
To do so, sparge the filter from inside to outside with
compressed air.
Clean the inside of the filter case by washing it out or sucking
the dirt up.
Oil polluted, fat polluted or clogged cartridges must be
exchanged. This procedure should be a monthly to annual
routine.
Servicing
If parts of a device are serviced which influence the explosion
protection the device may not be operated until such times
when a approved supervisory board or a qualified and
approved person have adequately inspected the device.
As best practice we recommend to send the device to
Gebr. Becker.
