INTRODUCTION OF THE MICRO-TEC

OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION
All the MICRO-TEC models are state of the art and incorporate the best
technologies available to date.
High frequency power conversion, commonly called switch mode
technology gives the following advantages :
• small, lightweight battery chargers
• consistent power delivery to the battery regardless of any fluctuations
of input voltage (mains or generator)
Electronic control of the outputs allows a strict adherence to the charging
curves that are specified by various battery manufacturers. These charging
curves come from parameters directly issued by these manufacturers, and also
depends on how the batteries are being used (ambient temperature, discharge
flow rate, etc...).
All the charging curves recommended by TECSUP are compiled from
information published by the largest battery manufacturers; they are 3-
state types (IUU).
• in the "Boost" state, the charger delivers maximum power to restore
nearly 80% of the batteries nominal capacity in the shortest time
possible.
• in the "Absorption" state, the charger manages the rest of the charge
period.
Once the battery has reached the boost voltage the charger then
begins to regulate the charge current to precisely maintain this voltage.
The time taken to completely fill the battery may be up to 2 to
2.5 times the period of the boost charge.
• when the battery finally accepts only a very small current, the charger
goes automatically in to " float mode". The charger can maintain this
mode without any risk of overcharging the battery. More than that, this
gives two major advantages:
- During this time, the battery keeps its highest level of capacity
because its "self discharge" is continuously replenished.
- The charger supplies power directly to any loads that would normally
be supplied by the battery, up to the chargers maximum current
rating. Only loads that exceed this capacity will then be drawn from
the battery.

Charging Summary
• The charger is fully automatic, and constantly monitors battery's state of
charge.
• The time taken to complete each charging phase depends on many parameters
(the nominal power of the charger, the level of discharge, the age of the
battery, the ambient temperature, etc...)
• For the reasons explained above, it is recommended to keep the charger
permanently connected to the battery and supplied with power to attain
maximum battery life.
