5.2 -TIG WELDING MODE
TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) is an arc welding process under protective gas by means of a Tig torch fitted with a tungsten
electrode with 3000ºC fusion point. It can be done with or without filling metal under Argon or argon gas mixtures.
This DC arc process replaces with many advantages the oxyacetylene welding process for steel, stainless steel,
copper, brass, etc with exception to the aluminium and its alloys. Under specific cases, also replaces the MMA arc
welding or Mig welding especially where a fine welding finishing is necessary.
- Make the necessary connections to mains and earth as described in "Installation". Connect welding torch (with
manual gas valve) to welding plug (negative). - Make proper gas installation and connect gas tube to gas flowmeter.
- Connect earth cable to welding plug + (positive).
- Switch on the welding set on the ON/OFF switch.
- The overheating indicator lights during a second if no failure has been found.
- The Power ON indicator lights, indicating that machine is under voltage.
A - TIG welding process selection:
Select TIG on the MMA/ LIFTIG (contact Tig) key button.
B - Welding current:
Adjust welding current with the current adjusting knob.
C – Open torch gas valve and make contact between the torch and the workpiece; lift the torch to ignite arc and start
weld.
D – At the end of welding job, close torch gas valve.
This TIG process is used where high frequency emissions may disturb the functioning of electronic sensitive
devices such as computers, hospital tools, pace makers, etc. Occasionally, inclusion of tungsten particles will promote
oxidization of welding pieces. Because of this, contact process must be avoided on alimentary equipments production.
1 - Open gas
2 - Contact
3 – Arc ignition
4 – Weld
5 – Stop
5 – Close gas
E - If necessary, adjust current during welding.
