Installation and Operating Instructions
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Signature Model 8501 Rain-Trip Rain
Sensor. The Rain-Trip is designed to work with all Signature controllers
and will work with many controllers made by others. Please read the
following instructions to install and operate your Rain-Trip properly for
years of dependable service.
Installing your Rain-Trip
Your Rain-Trip can be mounted, using the aluminum brackets, to the side
of a structure or with the brackets removed it can be threaded onto a
length of conduit using the molded in threads at the bottom of the housing.
In either case be sure the Rain-Trip is installed upright and in a location
where the rainfall is not blocked.
Wiring your Rain-Trip to Signature Controllers
Signature controllers are equipped to operate a sensor with normally-
closed leads. Most Signature models have a sensor port ready for sensor
connection. Remove the factory installed jumper wire from the sensor
connector on the terminal strip and insert the sensor wires. On other
Signature models, follow the instructions given in the owners manual.
Warning: The Rain-Trip is designed to be used only with 24 Volt Irrigation
systems. Use with higher voltages could result in injury or fire hazard.

Instalación del Rain-Trip
El Rain-Trip puede montarse en el lateral de una estructura utilizando los
soportes de aluminio; sin los soportes, puede roscarse al ramal de una
canalización por medio de la rosca estampada que se halla en la parte
inferior de la carcasa. En ambos casos asegúrese de que el Rain-Trip
está instalado en posición vertical y en un lugar donde pueda recibir el
agua de lluvia.
Conexión del Rain-Trip a los controladores Signature
Los controladores Signature están equipados para funcionar con conducciones
normalmente cerradas. La mayoría de los modelos Signature tienen una
terminal del sensor lista para su conexión. Retire el hilo de puente del

Wiring your Rain-Trip to controllers made by other manufacturers

Wiring your Rain-Trip as a Normally-Open switch
Examine the wires at the bottom of the Rain-Trip. The center wire
coming from your Rain-Trip is the NO (Normally-Open) lead. To use this
feature, cut and detach the speaker wire from the lead exiting at the NC
(Normally-Closed) position. Reattach this to the NO (Normally-Open)
wire exiting from the center.
Operating the Rain-Trip
Adjust the cap of the Rain-Trip to the desired setting from 1/8" to 1" of
rainfall. Turn the ring below the cap to open the airflow holes for faster
drying and return to system operation. Turn the ring below the cap to
cover the airflow holes for slower drying and return to system operation.
This allows the user to match the evapotranspiration rates of the soil to
the Rain-Trip.

Examine los cables del fondo del Rain-Trip. El que sale del centro es el
cable normalmente abierto "NO" (Noramlly Open). Para usar esta funcion,
corte y separe el cable del altavoz de la conexion normalmente cerrada
"NC" (normally closed) y conectelo en la posicion "NO" que sale del centro.
Funcionamiento del Rain-Trip
Ajuste la tapa del Rain-Trip a la regulación de lluvia deseada desde
0,32 cm a 2,5 cm (1/8 a 1 pulgada). Gire el aro que está debajo de la tapa
para abrir los orificios de circulación de aire para un secado más rápido y
vuelva al funcionamiento del sistema. Esta maniobra permite al usuario
hacer que coincidan las velocidades de evaporación y transpiración del
suelo con las del Rain-Trip.
