INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE POWERCLEAR
UV STERILISER
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1.
DANGER - To avoid possible electric shock, special care should
be taken since water is employed in the use of pond equipment. To
guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed.
READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS and all the important
notices before using this appliance.

A. Do not immerse the product in water! If the product drops
into water, don't reach for it; first disconnect the item from
the power supply and only after that take the item out of
the water. Carefully check the product after installation; if
any electrical parts are wet, disconnect the cord from the
power supply.
B. The power supply cord of this appliance can only be replaced
with a special cord. Do not operate any appliance which
malfunctions, has a damaged cord or has been dropped or
damaged in any way. Never cut the cord.
C. If the appliance's electrical connections gets wet, do not touch
anything. Disconnect the power supply before performing
any necessary maintenance.
3.
Children must be closely supervised at all times near water.
4.
IMPORTANT: Always disconnect the appliance when not in
use, before adding or removing parts and before cleaning. Never
yank the cord and never lift the appliance by the cable.
5.
NEVER LOOK INTO A UV LAMP WHEN SWITCHED ON.
6.
Do not use the appliance for any purpose other than that for
which it is intended.
* Do not use this appliance in swimming pools or other
situations where people are immersed.
* This product is designed to work with water not exceeding a
temperature of 35ºC (95ºF).
* Do not use this product with liquids other than water.
7.
Do not expose the product to temperature close to 0ºC (32ºF) or
below. In winter, place the product in a dry and protected place.
8.
IMPORTANT: Electrical connection must be in accordance with
data on the rating label; the appliance can be operated only after
having been correctly installed. The electrical safety is guaranteed
only when the item is connected to an earth circuit.
9.
It is best not to use an extension cord. If an extension cord is
necessary, check to be sure the connection is waterproof and the
extension cord is at least equivalent (for thickness, insulation and
number of wires) to the cord of the appliance. If in doubt, consult a
qualified electrician.
10. Never use the product without water.
11. IMPORTANT: The power supply should pass through a Residual
Current Device (RCD or GFCI - Ground Fault Current Interrupter) with
rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA.
12. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

Place the UV steriliser in a fixed position, in a dry and protected
place with sufficient ventilation around it.
Protect the appliance from direct sunlight.
Be sure that there is enough room around it for maintenance
operations.
To avoid overheating, do not cover the UV steriliser.
WARNING - THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED/GROUNDED.
IMPORTANT: The maximum operating pressure is 0.1 MPa (1 bar).
ONLY FOR UK MARKET
IMPORTANT - This product is supplied without cord and is designed
to be permanently wired to the mains supply; the connection must
be made in a dry, weatherproof enclosure through the use of a
double pole switched spur which complies to BS3676 fitted with a 3
amp fuse. The installation must conform to the regulations of the
Local Electricity Authority which could include the use of plastic or
metal conduit to protect the cable. A 30mA Residual Current Device
(RCD) must be fitted to the mains supply. For the connection use a
cord with section, insulation and a number of wires complying with
the IEC 245 Publication with the following minimum characteristics:
cord type HO5RN-F, 3 x 0.75mm
IMPORTANT - The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance
with the following code:

BROWN - LIVE
BLUE - NEUTRAL
The Brown lead should be connected to the Live terminal, which may
be marked with an 'L' or coloured brown or red.
The Blue lead should be connected to the Neutral terminal, which may
be marked with an 'N' or coloured blue or black.
The Green/Yellow lead should be connected to the Earth terminal,
which may be marked with an 'E' or coloured green or yellow.
The cord should be protected from abrasion, cuts or any other damage.
The socket must be positioned in a dry and protected place.
MAINTENANCE
Warning: Always stop the water supply and unplug or disconnect all
appliances in the pond from the electricity supply whilst the equipment
is being installed, repaired, maintained or handled. Never yank the
cord and never lift the appliance by the cable.
It is recommended that you:
Do not pull the internal wires.
Make sure that internal parts of the appliance are dry before,
during and after the maintenance operations.
Check that all the components are present and have been
reassembled in the correct way; if in doubt consult your local dealer
for a replacement of the defective component.
Check that there are no leaks inside the appliance before connecting
it to the electricity supply after maintenance.
CHANGING UV LAMP AND CLEANING THE
QUARTZ SLEEVE
NEVER LOOK INTO A UV LAMP.
To maintain optimum performance, the UV lamp should be replaced
each year. An ideal time is Spring, along with other pond maintenance.
For cleaning, simply use a cloth: DO NOT USE DETERGENTS OR OTHER
CHEMICAL CLEANERS.
See Appendix 1 for diagram.
Unplug or disconnect all appliances in the pond from the power supply.
Stop the water supply and disconnect the hoses.
Unscrew the screws at its base and pour as much water as possible
out of the unit.
Remove the cover by unscrewing the screws.
Pull the lamp holder paying attention not to move the wires from
their original position.
Disconnect the end caps from the tube.
Take the lamp out with care.
Unscrew the two compression fittings by rotating them approximately
90º anticlockwise, (counterclockwise).
Push the quartz sleeve from one side until it comes out from the
other side.
Never use oil or other material to lubricate the O-rings.
It is best to replace the O-rings every time the unit is opened.
Clean the quartz sleeve and polish with a soft cloth or paper towel.
If there are limescale deposits, soak the quartz sleeve in a
proprietary kettle descaling solution.
Check to ensure quartz sleeve is undamaged.
Make sure that internal parts of the appliance are dry before, during
and after the maintenance operations.
Reverse the above mentioned operations for re-assembly.
Check that all the components are present and have been
reassembled in a correct way; if in doubt, consult your local dealer
for replacement parts.
Check that there are no leaks inside the appliance before
re-connecting it to the power supply after maintenance.
INFORMATION
UV light can seriously inhibit the effectiveness of some pond medications.
WARRANTY
The Powerclear UV Steriliser is guaranteed against defects in material or
workmanship for a period of 3 year from date of purchase, under normal usage. The
Powerclear UV Steriliser will be repaired or replaced at manufacturer's discretion, free
of charge. This warranty does not apply to any Powerclear UV Steriliser which has
been subjected to misuse, negligence, tampering or accidental damage. No liability
is assumed with respect to loss or damage to livestock or personal property
irrespective of the cause thereof. This warranty does not affect your statutory rights.
Failure caused by misuse is not covered by this warranty.
UV Lamp not covered by this warranty.
