Taema OPTI-NO
Then read the pressure to be set on the pressure
regulator and the unit (pressure alarm).
The rule has two sides, one for low flows and one for
high flows.
The two flow ranges allow all dosages from 1 to 20
ppm to be covered, for all setting configurations on a
ventilator.
See the calculation equations on page 8.
Examples:
• In synchronised mode, with a minute volume of 8
l/min. and an insufflation time of 40 % of I+E, a 500
ppm bottle and a desired NO dosage of 4 ppm, the
pressure to be set is 5.85 bar in low flow or 0.5 bar in
high flow. The low flow range is to be used in this
case, as a pressure of less than 1 bar set on a
pressure regulator does not allow sufficient accuracy.
• In continuous mode, with a minute volume of
12 l/min., a 250 ppm bottle and a desired NO dosage
of 6 ppm, the pressure to be set is 1,5 bar in high flow.
The low flow position cannot be used in this case.
For a given ventilator configuration (inspired volume
and inspiratory time), when there is the choice between
the high flow and the low flow, the highest pressure
on the pressure regulator and the unit should be used
to increase the accuracy (prefer a low flow rate).

See technical data (§ III.3).

6. Installing the OPTI-NO

The procedure includes the following steps which are
common to both operating modes:
NOTE: Do not inject the NO upstream of the humidi-
fier as humidity can transform the NO to NO
Fit the filter and the NO injection pipe on the right hand
side of the unit, and connect the injection pipe to the

from the humidifier or upstream of the Y connector).
If the sequential mode is used, connect the filter

and the inspiration detection pipe to the left side of the
device and the connector on the ventilator insufflation
taper (see illustration below).
Using the OPTI-NO rule, the tables or equations (see
page 9), determine the system settings (flow range
and pressure value) to suit the ventilator flow and the
NO concentration in the bottle, in order to obtain the
desired inhaled NO dosage.
Important: OPTI-NO is not fitted with a inhaled gases
monitoring function (O
, NO and NO

...). The physician has to judge the timeliness to use
it in conjunction with an additional monitoring system.
Connect the OPTI-NO to the mains supply.
Open the bottle tap slowly then flush the inside of the
system (see flushing procedure on page 3).
