10. Operation
WARNING! Danger of death from fire and/or explosion! There is a danger of death in the event of
improper use! You must observe the following safety information:
• Use the device outdoors only.
• The "air inlets" (11) must not be blocked or covered.
• Ensure that the air outlet at the conical nozzle (1) is not blocked and that the "conical nozzle" is not twisted and
restricting the hot air flow.
• Never point the hot air flow at the connecting cable or at flammable or explosive substances.
• Follow the safety information in these operating instructions.
a) General notes on removal of weeds
The product is designed especially for the removal of weeds. Use of the product is most effective if the plant has a
high moisture content. As such, the best time for treatment of uncontrolled growth is in the spring. The effect is more
intense the less mature the uncontrolled growth. The success of treatment is not immediately visible. With a longer
exposure time, the visible part of the plant may also become burned. The sensitivity of the plants to thermal radiation
is not immediately obvious with the recommended exposure time. In general, seedlings with soft leaves are the most
sensitive and will die after just one treatment.
Older plants with harder leaves, such as thistles, dry out after several treatments at intervals of one to two weeks at
the earliest. Grasses with hard leaves are extremely robust and require a longer exposure time.
At the beginning, treatment of areas of uncontrolled growth must be repeated several times at short intervals. This
is the only way to ensure lasting results. In later stages, treatment may be applied at longer intervals. The weeds
only need to be heated. Burning is not necessary. This process dries the cells in the leaves, causing the weed to die.
Certain weeds require repeat treatment.
b) Operating the device
• Fit the handle (7) with its extension tube (6) to the shaft of the device.
• Unscrew the knurled nut (5) clockwise. Fix the tube in position by tightening the knurled nut (5) anti-clockwise.
• Connect the mains cable of the product (9) to an extension cable suitable for outdoor use. The extension cable is
not supplied with the device and must be obtained separately.
• Click the cable into the cable retaining clip (8) at the bottom of the ergonomic handle (7).
• Plug the extension cable into a proper mains outlet of the public power supply grid.
NOTE!
We recommend that, after a period of continuous use of approx. 15 minutes, the device be allowed to cool
for approx. 15 minutes so as not to overload it in continuous use. This helps to ensure its reliable function
and a longer service life.
Fighting weeds
• A hot air exposure time of approx. 5 seconds from an optimum distance of up to approx. 5 cm should be entirely
sufficient to fight smaller, ground-level weeds with heat.
