2. Use / Placement
The turn sheet is used with patients who are particularly sensitive to pain and with heavy patients or
ones requiring special care. The concept does not comprise any obligatory care techniques or
methods which are used irrespective of the patient but adapts to a patient's personal capabilities.
Moving and laterally repositioning patients is made much easier. By rolling up the turn sheet against
the patient's body in a lateral position and then fixing it in place with a bed sheet provides simple and
gentle lateral position support.
The turn sheet consists of a large blanket and a fitted sheet, which is placed round the mattress and
then fixed to the underside with fasteners. The upper side of the fitted sheet is coated with low-friction
material. It is placed on the mattress in the patient's back area with the sliding surface face up. For
protection this surface should be covered with an additional fitted bed sheet beforehand.
The underside of the blanket is also made of low-friction material whilst the upper side is made of
breathable, highly skin-compatible, non-dyed natural ticking. There is a nonwoven between these two
materials. This makes the turn sheet soft and adaptable. The blanket eventually lies on the sheet. The
bed sheet and any incontinence liner can now be laid in place. Since the turn sheet is breathable, it
can remain in the bed permanently.
