Inserting or changing the soldering tip

Cleaning the soldering tip

5. Roll some solder with a flux core around the tip and heat up
Using additonal colophony may be helpful.
Risk of injury due to hot surfaces
Let the soldering iron to fully cool down before touching
the soldering tip or the heater element.
Loosen the knurled nut.
Pull off the sleeve.
Gently pull the soldering tip of the heating element.
Push the new or cleaned soldeirng tip onto the heating
element as far as it will go. Turn it slightly and do not use
force.
Screw the sleeve down on the heating element with the
knurled nut. Tighten only by hand, do not use tools.
Material damage
Always keep the soldering tip tinned to guarantee best
result and long life.
Exchange used or burned soldering tips in a timely manner
to preserve the full performance of the soldering station.
Take the soldering tip out of the soldering iron how descri-
bed in chapter 6.3 when it has became passive and will not
take the solder easily.
Thoroughly clean it with 600 - 800 grid emery cloth.
Remont the soldering tip onto the heating element as des-
cribed in chapter 6.3.
Tin the soldering tip again.
