Ground Rod
DANGER
Electrocution Hazard
• Failure to install the ground rod could result in serious
injury or death. Always install the ground rod before
operating the light tower.
The ground rod is a safety device that may reduce the
chance of personal injury from stray electrical current.
Therefore, using the ground rod is strongly recommended.
However, it is the user's responsibility to determine the
requirements and/or applicability of state, province or nation-
al electrical code which governs the use of the ground rod.
To Install the Ground Rod
1. Unlatch and open the engine compartment.
NOTE: The engine compartment cover is equipped with a
hydraulic rod that will support the cover when opened.
2. Remove the ground rod (A, Figure 13) from its storage
location inside the engine compartment (B).
3. Select a point in the work site ground (C, Figure 13) not
more than 5 feet from the ground lug (D), located on the
left side of the light tower trailer toward the rear. Using a
mallet, drive the ground rod securely into the ground.

4. Attach the ground rod cable (E, Figure 13) between the
ground rod and the ground lug. Make sure the cable
connections are tightened.
NOTE: The ground rod cable may be attached to the
ground rod.
5. Close and latch the engine compartment cover.
To Remove the Ground Rod
1. Remove the ground rod cable from the ground lug. Be
sure to reinstall the wing nut securely to the ground lug.
2. Remove the ground rod from the work site ground, and
wipe the ground rod clean.
3. Wind the ground rod cable around the ground rod.
4. Unlatch and open the engine compartment.

Fueling The Unit
WARNING
Fire Hazard
Attempting to fuel the light tower trailer with the engine run-
ning could cause fire resulting in death or serious injury.
Always make sure the engine is shut down before adding
fuel to the fuel tank.
The light tower trailer is equipped with a single fuel tank
having a capacity of 50 gallons (189 L). It is also equipped
with a float-type fuel gauge (A, Figure 14) which indicates
the amount of fuel in the tank. Remove the fuel cap (B) and
add fuel to the tank. See General Fuel Information in the
Maintenance section for fuel recommendations.
The fuel cap can be padlocked for added security.
