5.4 «Shoe-to-Shoe» test
The slide switch 1 on the back of the device (see §4.2) must be activated.
The tester automatically measures the resistance between the two shoes. Stand on the
footwear electrode and wait until the test is complete, i.e. until «PASS» or «FAIL» appears on
the display (4).
«PASS»: If the test has been successfully completed, the LED indicator (5) lights up green. The
measured resistance (in MΩ) of the respective object and «PASS» appear successively on the
display (4).
«FAIL»: If the test fails, the LED indicator (5) flashes red if the value is too high or yellow if the
value is too low and an acoustic signal sounds. The measured resistance value (in MΩ) of the
respective object and «FAIL» appear successively on the display (4).
5.5 Totalizer key
The totalizer allows a total overview (statistics) of all the exams taken, showing the total of
successful exams and the total number of errors. To retrieve these statistics, press the test
selector button footwear test (7) for approx. 2 seconds. The totalizer is reset by simultaneously
pressing the test selector button footwear test (7) and the test selector button wrist strap test (8)
for approx. 2 seconds.
5.6 Access control
To control traffic lights, doors, turnstiles, locks, etc., a
potential-free contact was installed in the device which
can be contacted via the connection socket (12).
The potential-free contact is switched on each
successfully completed test.
6. Error sources
If the tester after a «FAIL» test indicates «OPEN» instead of the resistance value (in MΩ), no
resistance is measurable. The resistance of the tested object is too high or the connecting cable
is interrupted.
The most common causes of faults are: dirty soles of footwear, dirty wrist straps, the wrist strap
does not fit correctly (is worn too loosely). Depending on the quality of the sock material, the
device may first indicate, «FAIL». In this case, we recommend that you repeat the footwear test
after approx. 20 minutes.
7. Maintenance
The device has to be calibrated periodically, the actual interval can be determined by the user
depending on the frequency of use and the respective surroundings. You can send the device
to STATECH SYSTEMS AG STS for calibration. The footwear electrodes are of stainless steel
and should be cleaned at regular intervals using a moist, soft cloth.
