OPERATING MODE
Thanks to its Save Batt function, UNISPLIT couples the batteries only after the starting phase and when the
engine is running thanks to a delay.
This thus avoids all large starter current inrushes (> 500A for several seconds) that can damage the coupler-
separators and service batteries (their technology is not made for this use).
Functioning
1.
Vehicle contact switched on : UNISPLIT electronic card detects +APC (+after contact)
through its 86 terminal (Save Batt).
2.
The isolator-combiner closes (couples) after 10 seconds. This delay prevents the auxiliary
battery from being connected while the engine is started, in order to preserve it (auxiliary
batteries technology is not made to be used for engine start)
3.
The second battery (auxiliary) is coupled, and thus also charging.
4.
On EURO 6 vehicles, the alternator stops functioning once the main battery (starter battery)
is sufficiently charged.
5.
Vehicle still functioning, if the alternator stops (86 terminal not active) :
a.
b.
Note: This delay prevents the batteries from being isolated while putting a high-consumption
device in operation for instance.
c.
6.
Overvoltage protection : if there is an overvoltage (>15V), UNISPLIT separates both batteries
in order to protect the 2
as soon as the voltage is < 15V again.
Rescue mode (start-up with the 2 batteries in parallel)
1.
Turn the key
2.
Wait for 10 seconds
3.
Launch the start
12
UNISPLIT remains coupled until battery 1 (starter battery) voltage is higher than
12.8V. The alternator will launch the charge again when battery load level is not
sufficient.
UNISPLIT separates the 2 batteries when battery 1 (starter) is discharged, under
12.8V during 10 seconds.
Once the batteries are separated (starter battery < 12.8V); UNISPLIT couples both
batteries again as soon as the alternator launches its charge again (86 terminal
reactivated).
battery and the devices connected. It couples both batteries again
