8. DMX Connection

You can operate up to a maximum of 16 GM215 LED effect spotlight devices in a DMX chain
(master/slave); otherwise the controller will be overloaded.
To avoid possible disturbances, the DMX chain should be kept as short as possible.
The use of XLR microphone cables can cause disturbances to the DMX signal transmission. In
such case, please use special DMX high frequency cables.
Do not use any damaged DMX lines. Do not use any Y splitters. The devices must be connected
in series (daisy chain) in direct succession.
a) Connection of a DMX controller
Connect the device only to a DMX controller having DMX512 protocol.
• Connect the input DMX IN to the output of the DMX controller.
• For this purpose, use a screened XLR cable. The controller must have 4 free control channels.
• Connect the DMX output DMX OUT with the DMX input of the subsequent device. If the light effect de-
vice is the last or only device in the DMX chain, insert a plug with a 120 Ohm/0.25 W terminating resistor
here (between Pin2 and Pin3). Plugs with appropriate terminating resistor are available from specialised
dealers.
Never connect the earth cable GND to the earth of the housing of the light effect device because
the signal transmission can be disturbed by earth loops.
Some manufacturers use for the DMX connection 5 pin DMX data lines/inputs/outputs. Use here
appropriate adapter cables.
Pin assignment of the 3 pin DMX connection: Pin1 = GND / Pin2 = (-) / Pin3 = (+).
Pin assignment of the 5 pin DMX connection: Pin1 = GND / Pin2 = (-) / Pin3 = (+) /
PIN 4 and 5 are not assigned.
