Safety instructions
In order to be able to use the appliance properly and safely, every
user must first read the operating instructions and observe the
safety instructions contained therein. Take care of these operating
instructions and keep them in a place where they can be accessed
by everyone.
Only staff who have been trained accordingly, know the appliance
and are authorised to carry out work in this field should use this
appliance.
The machine may only be openend by trained specialists - even
during repairs. The machine is to be unplugged from the mains
before opening. Live parts inside the machine may still be live for
some time after unplugging from the mains.
The appliance can only be disconnected from the mains supply by
pulling out the mains plug or the connector plug. The socket for
the mains cord must be easily accessible.
Please follow the relevant safety instructions and guidelines, and
occupational health and safety regulations for use in the labora-
tory.When working with the mill, the user must wear his personal
protective equipment. Defective or inappropriate protective equip-

Please ensure that there are no parts of the body between the
casing parts that move together.
Caution: Before removing the grinding beaker, switch off the mill
and wait until the motor stops. Risk posed by trailing crushing ele-
ments (beaters or cutters).
Always switch off the appliance and disconnect the plug before
cleaning or replacing parts.
Caution: The grinding beaker, crushing elements and rotor shaft
may be hot after long grinding cycles. Allow the mill to cool down
before cleaning or before changing crushing elements.
Caution: Beware of the sharp - edged cutter in particular when
changing crushing elements and when cleaning. Always wear

Please note that wear debris from the appliance or rotating acces-
sories can end up in the medium to be processed. Please contact

mill feed with coolants (liquid nitrogen or dry ice), (see laboratory
guidelines and accident prevention regulations applicable to the

Ensure that pressure does not build up in the grinding chamber
(particularly when using coolants).
Caution: When using liquid nitrogen, you must only attach on the
grinding beaker and begin the grinding process when the liquid
nitrogen is completely vaporized.
Caution: Appliance parts may still be extremely cold for some
time after cooling with liquid nitrogen and should only be handled
whilst wearing protective equipment.

Correct use
IKA analysis grinders A 10 is suitable for carrying out low-loss grin-
ding of hard and brittle substances as of grain size 6 - 7mm. The
grinders operate without creating dust or lost. Beaters, blades.and
grinding are replaceable. The useful volume of the grinding cham-
ber is 50 ml for the A 10 grinder.
Hard and brittle ground material is crushed by means of beaters or
blades ratating at high speed.
Oil substances or those that are given to smearing and which are
not capable of being ground at room temperature have to be coo-
led for grinding (e.g. embrittled with liquid nitrogen).
