Using the paraglider for the fi rst time

Delivery

Before delivery every ADVANCE paraglider must be fl own by the dea-
ler and checked for correct settings and trim. When this has been
done the dealer enters the date of the fi rst fl ight on the label attached
to a centre rib. This entry, together with a completed guarantee card
returned to ADVANCE, will ensure that defects in the product attribu-
table to manufacturing faults are covered by the ADVANCE warranty
(see Warranty in the section «Service»).
The SIGMA 7 comes with a backpack, an inner bag, a compression
strap, a repair kit, speed bar with lines, a mini windsock in the canopy
colours and a user manual with a warranty card and service booklet.

Basic settings

The basic SIGMA 7 set-up at delivery is the original trim setting that
the ADVANCE test team have found to be best; and the glider was
certifi ed in this condition. Any personal alterations or modifi cations to
the paraglider - for example, changing the line lengths or fi tting diffe-
rent risers or quick links by the owner - will result in invalidation of the
certifi cation (see section «Certifi cation»).

Adjusting the brake lines

The length of the brake lines is set at the factory so that the trailing
edge is not braked (is crease-free) when brakes are fully released in
fully accelerated fl ight. This setting should be kept as a matter of prin-
ciple.
If the length of the brake lines has to be readjusted there must be
8cm of slack (free travel) between the brakes free position and the
fi rst infl uence of brake effect in unaccelerated fl ight (brake starts to
take effect). We recommend that the brake handles are secured wi-
th a bowline knot.

Speed system

We recommend that the SIGMA 7 speed system is correctly adjus-
ted before the fi rst fl ight. This includes checking that the full travel can
be used.
After initial adjustment of the speed system for leg length and har-
ness, fi ne adjustment can be made by setting the operation of the 2
stage accelerate function to suit the individual: by moving the knot
that holds the ball (see ball
1
in the illustration) the speed system
travel and load can be altered for leg length and position.
