Introduction
The automotive battery tester is intended for checking the battery status of
12 V resp. 6 V lead-acid batteries. With the battery load test you can determine if
the battery's capacity is sufficient to start a motor vehicle even under adverse
climatic conditions. The tester draws current from the battery while measuring its
voltage level. The voltage level of a good battery will remain relatively steady
under load, but a defective battery will show a rapid loss in voltage. Battery size
(CCA rating) and ambient temperature will affect the test result. Carefully follow
the safety notes and the instructions.
During testing, the voltage in the electric system of the vehicle may drop sharply,
especially if the battery is discharged or defective. Please keep in mind that this
may trigger the alarm system or anti-theft devices, e.g. in the radio.
Therefore it is advisable to take precautions or disconnect the battery for testing
in advance.
Battery Load Test
1. Switch off the engine and turn off all consumers such as light, fan, rear window
heating, booster etc. except of the clock and the radio's storage. Pull the key.
2. Connect the black battery clamp (9) directly to the negative terminal (NEG, N,
-, Minus) of the battery.
3. Connect the red clamp (10) directly to the positive terminal (POS, P, +, Plus)
of the battery. Ensure the connections are good.
4. Determine the cold cranking amps (CCA) rating of your battery. The cold
cranking amps is often stated as "CCA" on the battery. If the CCA is not stated
on your battery, refer to the recommended values from the following table:
5. Set the CCA rating. To do so, press the battery CCA rating adjustment button
(8) repeatedly and quickly as many times until the CCA value on the display
(4) matches your battery. The default value is 500 CCA. At each change of the
CCA value, the tester will sound a short beep.
