Assembly information
Each basic bay is made up of a base unit, top cover, 4 x uprights or
C.V., 4 x end of row top shelf and full depth beams, 4 x dust covers, 4
x packer or base plates, C.V. clips for extra security.

Step 1.
Lay out the bases on the floor making sure the shoes butt up to each
other (by doing this first, it allows you to check that there is sufficient
room to work around your shelving bays for picking/loading etc.), (see
Figure 3).
Step 2.
Once you are happy with the positioning of the bases, fit the C.V.
uprights into the shoes and push down firmly. 4 C.V. uprights are
required for the first bay (2 being common) and with each bay added 2
C.V. uprights are required, see Figure 4. Under each C.V. place the
packer plates and level using a spirit level if necessary.
Step 3.
Working from the front of the bay, fit the cover so that the top is level
with the top of the C.V. uprights and locate into the slots of the C.V.
Figure 5.
Locate all four corners of the top cover but do not knock down tightly
at this stage. Fit any odd bays in a similar manner remembering to
locate only.
Step 4.
To provide extra support full depth beams fit on the extreme ends of the
run of shelving. There are two on each shelving run 1 x 100mm deep
(top shelf beam) 1 x 70mm deep (full depth beam) on each end. Full
depth beams should be located approximately half way up the height of
the bay, see Figure 8.
Note: If end of row louvred panels are to be fitted then leave top shelf
beam and full depth beam out.
Step 5.
The framework of the bay/run of bays should now be complete; i.e.
bases, top covers and end beams all located. Now using your hand or
a soft headed hammer, knock down the top covers and end beams
evenly throughout the run (please remember excess pressure isn't
needed to do this). If something isn't fitting, it is not located correctly
and should be re-positioned not hit harder. During this operation, the
covers can be fitted, (see Figure 9).
To prevent accidental dislodgement of top covers or end beams, fit the
C.V. clips to:
All four corners of the top cover in the slots provided.
Also into the end beams in the slots provided. (These are
easily 'clicked' into place using a screwdriver), (figures
10 and 11).
If the run needs any repositioning, this can be done at this stage.

Shelves are supplied with 4 clips per shelf - 2 x left, 2 x right hand. Fit
the clip into the C.V. at the desired level or height, then lay the shelf on
the clips. Shelf levels can be changed or added as required, however,
the bay loading must not be exceeded. Figure 12 shows the clips being
inserted in the upright or C.V. (centrefour vertical).
Maximum loadings
It is important to note that the maximum storage capacity for each bay
is 945kg with a maximum shelf loading of 135kg uniformly distributed
load. It is important to note the example below showing the difference
in weight loading.
Shelf containers
Polypropylene shelving containers are available for standard shelving
in a variety of sizes, see table. The polypropylene shelf bins have large
front handgrip with card holders for the index cards supplied. The bins
can be further sub-divided using the optional dividers available.

It is possible to add even further small parts storage capacity to the
system using louvred panels available in 3 depths according to the
depth of bay you have. The louvred panels fit onto the ends of basic
and additional bays simply and easily using a top and bottom beam and
louvred panel clips. The top and bottom beams replace the normal
shelf and full depth beams that may be already located on your RS
modular racking/shelving system.
The beams clip into the top and bottom of the C.V. or uprights to accept
the louvred panel. In between the top and bottom of the beams, special
reusable fixings are supplied and should be attached to hold the louvre
in place.
Note: It must be noted that the weight placed on a louvred panel must
be calculated as part of the overall bay loading (see maximum
loadings).

Security cabinet/bay (1090mm high) for 500mm deep modular
racking only. RS Stock no.
The security cabinet/bay is supplied complete with one set of lockable
bay doors complete with fitments (already located) and keys, a top and
bottom beam (overall height 1090mm).

The security cabinet/bay can be located at any height on the C.V. or
uprights. Two sections of side cladding (supplied in two halves) and a
section of rear cladding (supplied in two halves) surround the bay.
The security pack is designed to fit into any existing bay 2000mm high
x 1000mm wide and 500mm deep.
