6 Putting into operation
EN - 12
The torch and power source together form an operating unit which provides a
plasma arc for cutting when supplied with the appropriate operating resources.
When cutting, compressed air is ionised in the cutting nozzle by high-frequency
pulses. The initial arc produces a conductive plasma which is accelerated in the
nozzle and directed to the workpiece. The working arc is struck between the
cutting torch electrode and the workpiece. The workpiece material is melted by
the energy of the impact, the dissociation and the ionisation and blown out by
the kinetic energy of the plasma jet.
The compressed air is used to cool the cable assembly and the cutting torch.
The plasma-cutting torches in the ABIPLAS
intended for the cutting of low and high-alloy materials using compressed air
for industrial or commercial use by trained operators. These plasma torches are
air-cooled cutting torches.
