3M™ Industrial Safety Helmets
INTENDED USE
This product meets the requirements of EN 397:2012+A1:2012, Industrial Safety Helmets. This product is designed
to protect the wearer against objects likely to strike the head. For specific performance requirements see Technical
Specification. See all instructions for use and save for continuing reference.
^ Particular attention should be given to warning statements where indicated.
^ WARNING
• Always be sure that the complete product is:
- Suitable for the application;
- Fitted correctly;
- Worn during all periods of exposure;
- Replaced when necessary.
• Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are essential in order for the product to
help protect the wearer from impact hazards.
• Failure to follow all instructions on the use of these personal protection products and/or failure to
properly wear the complete product during all periods of exposure may adversely affect the wearer's
health, lead to severe or life threatening illness or permanent disability.
• For suitability and proper use follow local regulations, refer to all information supplied or contact a
safety professional or 3M on 0870 60 800 60 (UK) or 1800 320 500 (Ireland).
• For adequate protection this helmet must fit or be adjusted to the size of the users head.
• The helmet is made to absorb the energy of a blow by partial destruction or damage to the shell and the
harness, and even though such damage may not be readily apparent, any helmet subjected to severe impact
should be replaced.
• The attention of users is also drawn to the danger of modifying or removing any of the original component parts
of the helmet, other than as recommended by the helmet manufacturer. Helmets should not be adapted for the
purpose of fitting attachments in any way not recommended by the helmet manufacturer.
• Do not apply paints, solvents, adhesives or self-adhesive labels, except in accordance with instructions from the
helmet manufacturer.
• Direct contact with sprays, fluids or other substances containing solvents and/or alcohols can reduce the
durability of the helmet and should therefore be avoided.
• Use of the helmet should be kept within industrial areas only and the helmet should not be used in any other
application such as horse riding or bike riding.
• Always ensure that the head harness is well maintained and correctly adjusted to the users head.
• If in doubt contact your safety officer or 3M for further advice.
PREPARATION FOR USE
Inspection
Before the helmet is worn, ensure that the head harness is always attached to the helmet at the appropriate points.
Before each use the helmet should be inspected for cracks, cuts or other damage and should be rejected and
disposed of if these are discovered. If required, replace the complete head harness assembly only. Ensure that the
3M™ UVicator™ disc (where fitted) has not turned completely white, as this indicates that the shell is degraded by
UV radiation and the helmet should be replaced.
Fitting
Insert the 4 harness holders into the helmet grooves (See figure 1). It is important that the headbands are properly
tensioned in their attachments. The 3M™ H700, G3000 and G3501 safety helmets are also approved with the
suspension rotated through 180°.
Helmet adjustment (See figure 2)
Adjust the nape strap to fit the wearers head correctly. Tighten the nape strap so that the helmet sits securely. For the
standard suspension, press the studs into the holes. The height of the head harness can be set at a choice of 3
vertical height settings for optimum comfort (See figure 3).
