Controls to be carried out in case of ignition troubles
- Checking the ignition gearcase
To carry out the operations below it is necessary to remove
the central covering and the helmet carrier compartment
(see chapter 8).
In case of non ignition and/or anomalous operation which
cause cannot be determined at first sight, it is necessary to
replace the gearcase with another good one.
Attention
- Remember that disconnections for the gear-
case replacement must be done while the engine is stop.
If ignition operates correctly after replacing the gearcase, the
trouble may be imputable to the gearcase which, of course,
must be replaced.
If troubles are not solved this way, it is necessary to check
the generator as follows.
After checking visually the electrical connections, check with
an ohmmeter the flywheel coils values, following the proce-
dure below:
- Disconnect the two connections on the flywheel
- Use a digital ohmmeter to check that the resistance
between the green and the white wires on the flywheel
ranges between 700÷800 W.
- Repeat this operation on the white and the red wire, resis-
tance should range between 100÷150 W.
- Check that there is continuity between the brown wire and
mass and yellow wire and mass.
- Should any anomaly be noticed, replace the stator with a
new one.
Voltage regulator
In case of voltage regulator failure the following troubles may
be noticed:
1) Lamps burnout (interrupted regulator)
2) Lighting set and automatic starting device failure (short
circuit on regulator)
3) Discharged battery
Interventions:
- Disconnect the connector from the regulator
- With an ohmmeter, check whether the circuit between the
first and second connection (yellow and black) is open.
- With an ohmmeter check whether the circuit between the
third and fourth connection (brown-green/black) is open.
- Should different values be noticed, replace the regulator.
- If correct operation is not reset even with the new regulator,
refit the old one and check the harness connection.
