13. Troubleshooting

The following table of faults also contains all troubleshooting measures included in the chapter "What to do if"
Fault/error message at the controller.
Pressure fluctuations in the system.
The collectors are misted up.
The pump does not run although the collector
is warmer than the cylinder (no noise from the
motor, no noticeable vibration).
The pump is running, but no flow rate is di-
scernible at the flow meter with balancing
valve. The flow and return temperatures are
identical or the cylinder temperature does not
rise or rises only slowly.
The pump is running, but no flow rate is
discernible at the flow meter with balan-
cing valve.
The pump appears to open late and switch
itself off early.
There is a fault in the system; the sensor is faulty or
incorrectly connected.
If the problem occurs immediately after commissio-
ning, there is air in the solar circuit.
Moisture has entered the collector during storage.
The maximum cylinder or collector temperature is
exceeded. The control indicator or display on the
controller is activated.
The power supply is interrupted.
Excessive temperature differential (>15 °C) selected
or the controller does not work.
Pump shaft blocked.
The pump is contaminated.
The sensor is faulty.
The sensor is fitted incorrectly.
There is air in the pipework,
the system pressure is too low or
the system is contaminated.
The flow meter with balancing valve is stuck.
The shut-off valve is closed.
Excessive temperature differential between collec-
tor and cylinder.
Please refer to the controller operating and installation in-
structions.
Vent the system.
The internal mist will evaporate after a few weeks in ope-
ration. The moisture will progressively escape through the
integral ventilation slots.
The controller has shut down correctly and restarts again
automatically when the actual temperature drops below the
selected maximum temperature.
Check pipes and fuses/MCBs.
Check the controller.
Check the temperature sensor.
Reduce the temperature differential.
Briefly switch to maximum speed or, if possible, open the
vent screw on the pump. Insert a screwdriver into the notch
and turn the pump wheel by hand.
Dismantle and clean the pump. Close the flow limiter and the
pump ball valve.
Replace the sensor.
Check the position of the sensor. The collector sensor must be
fully inserted into the collector sensor well.
Check the system pressure. Check whether the selected
expansion vessel is large enough. Check the pre-charge pres-
sure of the expansion vessel.
Operate the pump in intervals at maximum pump rate.
Open the air vent valves on the collector, pump and solar cy-
linder.
Flush the system forwards and backwards. Clean fitted com-
ponents, such as the flow meter with the balancing valve and
the dirt trap.
Check the line routing. In case of "up and down" line routing,
e.g. at balcony protrusions or around water pipes, change the
line routing, if required or insert an additional air vent valve.
Ensure that no automatic air vent valves are positioned close
to the collector which cannot be disconnected from the sys-
tem using a fill & drain valve.
Check that the automatic air vent valve is operating correctly.
For this, undo the protective cap and check the float with a
blunt needle to ensure it moves easily. Replace the air vent
valve if required.
Check the function of the flow meter with balancing valve. A
jammed ring, for example, can block the display in the sight
glass, even if the flow rate is correctly adjusted. Switch the
pump ON in manual mode. The pump piston movement must
be discernible. Release the piston by tapping it lightly. Repla-
ce the flow meter and balancing valve if necessary.
Open the shut-off valve.
Reduce the temperature differential at the control unit.
