INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY REGULATIONS
5.
GREASING AND PERIODIC MAINTENANCE.
5.1
Greasing of the power chuck.
IMPORTANT: All operations and periodic maintenance MUST BE
CONDUCTED WITH THE MACHINE OFF.
5.1.1 Periodic greasing of the power chuck is necessary to:
A) Constantly achieve the calculated gripping force.
B) Guarantee long life and accuracy to the chuck.
5.1.2
Type of grease. Use special SMW-AUTOBLOK grease for power
chucks type K 67.
5.1.3
Frequency of greasing. The chuck should be greased every
100000 clamping/unclamping movements and in any case every 1000
working hours.
5.1.4
How and where to grease the chuck. Use a hand pump on the
nipple located radially on the body of the chuck.
Make movements of the jaws, during the greasing operation and after, in
order to distribute the grease into the chuck.
5.1.5
A few times a day move the chuck from fully opened to fully closed
without a workpiece. This allows a better distribution of the grease
within the chuck.
5.2
Periodic maintenance.
In order to properly maintain the chuck, it is necessary to dismount if
periodically, clean the chuck carefully, check the condition of the
contact surfaces and insure that the grease has penetrated uniformly.
5.2.1 Dismounting frequency:
The chuck must be dismounted periodically after 300000 cycles;
at least every 3000 working hours, regardless of the number of cycles.
N.B.: the only area needing a more frequent cleaning is the seat of the
inclined T-nut, on the models AP-R and NT-R (see part. 15, page 57 and
59). Always check the cleaning conditions when replacing the top jaws
and, if necessary, dismantle and clean all the surfaces thoroughly.
To do that, it is not necessary to remove the chuck from the machine,
just follow the instructions hereunder:
- remove the top jaws,
- remove the pin 20,
- unscrew the screw 14 completely and take out the T-nut 15 with the
protection plate 19,
- clean the different components, especially the seat in the master jaw,
and reassemble all the parts.

cartridges 14 Oz. (DIN 1284).
5.2.2 What to do.
When the chuck is fully dismounted proceed as follows:
A) Degrease and clean each component with a trichloroethylene based
solvent.
B) Any residue can be cleaned with a wire brush.
C) Use a fine abrasive stone to eliminate any possible seizure marks.
D) The grease holes can be cleaned using a metal wire.
E) Inspect the chuck for excessive wear conditions that could cause a loss
of precision in the chuck or breakage.
EXCESSIVE WEAR DURING COMPONENT GRIPPING PRODUCES
CONCENTRATED STRESS AREAS THAT CAN CAUSE PERMANENT
DEFORMATION OR FAILURE IN THE CHUCK'S COMPONENTS.
