6. Using a pry bar under the ½-20 mounting bolts, item #65,
in the face of the wiper bar, raise the wiper bar until the
rear seal, item #57, is compressed against the bottom side
of the rail head, see ¿ gure 12. Snug the outer bolt to hold
position. Repeat on the opposite side of the wiper bar.
The rear seal must remain straight, without bending. If the
seal bends out towards the gage face of the rail, it can be
repositioned straight by sliding a ¿ nger across the seal, to
straighten the seal. The seal must not bend back towards
the web or ¿ eld side of the rail. This must be done on both
ends of the wiper bar, one end at a time. The distance from
the top of the rail to the top of the wiper bar trough, item
#61, must be no less than 1-3/4". (See ¿ gure 8B.)
Figure 12
7. When the wiper bar is properly positioned, tighten all four
½-20 mounting bolts, item #65, and torque to 45-50 ft.-lbs.
(Illustration 4.)
8. Reinstall the trough and brush, items #61 & #60, by placing
over the 6 bolts protruding through the wiper bar assem-
bly. Install the six ¼-20 nuts, item #72, loosely on the
bolts. The nuts should be loose enough to allow about a
1/16" gap between the trough and wiper bar. Apply a light
amount of grease or oil to the heel of the rubber tip, item
#59, and slide it into the trough groove from one end until
fully installed. Tighten the ¼-20 lock nuts to 100-110 in.
lbs. (See Illustration 4.)
9. Check the position of the top edge of the wiper bar by
pulling the rubber tip item #59, down to inspect the position
of the face of the wiper bar with respect to the gage face.
Make sure the rear seal, item #57, is straight and tight
against the bottom of the rail head after all fasteners have
been fully tightened. (See ¿ gure 8A). Check the clearance
between the top of the rail and the top of the trough. It
must be 1-3/4" or greater. (See ¿ gure 8B.)
10. Repeat the steps above for each wiper bar to be installed.

Master Block Assembly Installation
The master block assembly is a component of 273264 Deliv-
ery Hose Kit. The delivery hose kit contains all items required
for installing the ½" supply hose, master block, and hose
assemblies for connecting the master block to the wiper bar
assemblies (See Illustration 9A). The master block assembly,
273247S as supplied in the kit, is con¿ gured for a typical two
wiper bar system. The master block can be recon¿ gured for a
four wiper bar system by making the following changes. (See
Illustration 10)
•
Remove the outlet plugs from outlets 5 and 6 of the master
block (as marked on the Master Block).
•
Install two additional outlet ¿ ttings, part number 239857,
and clamping ring, part number 404-20236-1, into outlets 5
and 6.
•
Purchase two additional hoses, part number 273246S, to
connect with the two additional wiper bars to Outlets 5 & 6.
With the changes above, output from the pump will be equally
divided between the 4 wiper bars of the system.
1. Attach the ½" supply hose, item #7, to the master block
inlet ¿ tting, item #121, a 37° JIC -8 connector.
(See Illustration 9A and 10.)
2. Attach the master block to a rail tie between the wiper bars.
(See ¿ gure 13). The length of the hoses supplied, are
sized for mounting the master block between the rails. (If
another location is desired, new feed line hoses will have
to be obtained (Item #9, Illustration 9).) Two lag bolts are
supplied for attachment to wood ties. If concrete ties are
used, suitable anchors will have to be obtained, or a 5'
length of treated 2 X 4 lumber can be placed in the ballast,
between ties for securing the master block. The lag bolts
can be started by setting them partially with a hammer
before screwing them in place. Connections to the master
block will be easier if the block is mounted on the face that
provides the greatest clearance for the ¿ ttings.

bars using the supplied lag bolts.
