Use
4.1
Compatible Surgical Laser Units
The laser fiber may be used in connection with the laser surgical units MY30, MY60, MY40, MY40e,
diomax®, diomax® 1550, Limax® 60, Limax® 120 and Limax® 1064 by Gebrüder Martin. Using other laser
surgical units is permitted only if a specific certificate of compatibility has been issued either by
Gebrüder Martin or by the manufacturer of the respective third-party laser surgical unit.
4.2
Application/Intraoperative Procedure
New laser fibers are packaged into peel pouches.
•
Open the peel pouch and remove the laser fiber.
4.2.1
Before First Use and Before Each Further Use
•
Sterilize the laser fiber, see section 5.4 "Sterilization", page 21.
•
Additionally sterilize the components of the fiber preparation kit for sterile intraoperative preparation.
4.3
Sterile Application
•
Remove the laser fiber from the sterilization packaging.
•
Remove protection cap of the SMA-X connector.
•
Manually screw on SMA-X connector fully and tightly onto the laser fiber socket of the laser surgery
unit (do not use any tools).
•
The red laser status indicator and the information line Connect fibre on the surgical laser unit
disappear.
•
The pilot laser can be used to check the laser fiber, as the operation beam and the pilot laser beam
follow the same optical path. The pilot laser beam should appear round and even on a bright surface at
a distance of a few centimeters.
•
Using the fiber preparation set, it is possible to prepare the laser fiber again under sterile conditions
during surgery.
Should this be unsuccessful, do not re-use the laser fiber, and dispose of it as infectious material if
necessary.
A defective laser fiber can damage the surgical laser unit and must not be used under any
circumstances.
•
In general, tissue contact should be avoided.
