Problem
Readout display drifts during
adjustment
No display shown
Incorrect values displayed
Electrode shows discoloring inside the
shaft
Despite low pH value, the system
releases CO
into the aquarium.
2
Despite high pH value, the system
does not release CO
into the aquar-
2
ium. Solenoid valve is not working
Solenoid valve will not open
pH value rises despite the solenoid
valve is open
No bubbles in the bubble counter
CO
consumption too high
2
Fish are below surface and breathing
heavily or swimming abnormally
through the water
Possible cause
Electrode is dirty or covered with algae
Electrode has been dried for long period
CO
or air bubbles reach the tip of electrode
2
Electrode too old / defective
Electrode was / is immersed too deep in water
Defective cable or electrode
Water has entered the controller unit
Control system is not connected to electrical
outlet
Too old or contaminated test solutions
Protection cap on the electrode
Incorrect calibration
Electrode has been contaminated by other
chemicals or medications
Solenoid valve is defective caused by water
damage. Either non-return valve was not used
or the non-return valve is defective.
Operating pressure at the pressure reducer is
too high – above 1 bar
CO
bottle is closed
2
CO
bottle is empty
2
CO
gas is expelled from water by air stone, air
2
diffusor, etc.
Exceeds the maximum aquarium size of
approx. 400 liters (100 gal.) per reactor
Pressure reducer incorrectly adjusted (insuffi-
cient or no operating pressure)
Non-return valve incorrectly connected
Non-return valve clogged or defective
Leakage in hose system or in the hose fitting
Leakage in CO
hose system
2
Operating pressure too high
Washer between pressure reducer and CO
bottle defective / dirty
Reactor dirty or water pressure too low, CO
bubbles escape
Too strong aeration of the aquarium, no cover
Tightening nut at adjustment wheel of sera CO
pressure reducer has become loose
Threaded screw (on top) of pressure reducer
was over tightened (display reads in the red
area). Safety valve opens, and CO
a hissing sound
CO
gas having escaped from the water is
2
trapped below aquarium cover
pH value is too low in relation to the carbonate
hardness
Filter is not functioning properly
Aquarium water is heavily burdened
Trouble shooting
Clean with sera cleaning solution, then soak
in sera care solution KCl
Soak electrode for 12 hours, then recalibrate.
Failing so, replace electrode
specialist.
Move the electrode to another place in the
aquarium
Replace electrode

Remove protection cap
Recalibrate, see instructions for use
Replace electrode
Need repair
At first manual control: close CO
the bottle. Shut off pressure reducer and out-
let valves. Remove CO
valve. Find out whether control system is
working by changing the desired pH value. If
not
see your specialist. If yes, attach hose
again and adjust operating pressure ( + 0.5 bar)
correctly as described in the instructions for
use.
Open CO
2
Refill CO
bottle
2
Avoid air bubbling in the water
Increase CO
CO
reactor. Thus, double the CO
2
Increase operating pressure
Check valve fittings and correct connection if
neccessary
Replace
Check hoses and fittings and replace hoses if
necessary
Replace hose
Lower operating pressure at the pressure
reducer
Replace
2
Clean reactor or direct more water into the
2
reactor
Reduce loss of CO
Fasten tightening nut firmly by hand
2
Loosen threaded screw immediately. Open
outlet valve (adjustment wheel) to release
escapes with
built-up pressure. Close outlet valve and
2
tighten threaded screw very slowly, so that
operational pressure range is between 0.8
and 1.0 bar.
Provide better air circulation
Carry out a partial water change of 10 – 20%.
Adjust to a higher pH value after.
Clean filter
Carry out a partial water change with gravel
