information to
"step-by-step"
in an emergency
1. Container packed liferaft
ensure the painter line is attached to a
strong point on the vessel.
detach and separate the container from its
cradle and throw overboard.
do NOt inflate the liferaft on deck.
launching instructions are located on the
container.
1. Valise packed liferaft
retrieve the valise packed liferaft from
its dry storage location.
place it on a suitable location on deck.
ensure the painter line is attached to a
strong point on the vessel and throw over-
board. do NOt inflate the liferaft on deck.
launching instructions are located on the
valise.
4. Inverted inflation
If a non-self-righting life raft (VIKING
rescYou™ and VIKING rescYou™
Coastal) inflates upside down with the life-
raft floor facing upwards, it must be manu-
ally righted (see no. 4 on illustrations).
When the liferaft turns over it is important
to stay on your back to stay free of the lines
and ensure a free airway.
6. sea anchor
the sea anchor is attached to the lower
buoyancy tube and must be launched im-
mediately after the painter line is cut and
the liferaft is well clear of the vessel. the
sea anchor stabilises the liferaft and helps
instructions
maintain its position, which may have been
reported via radio. drift may be reduced by
colapsing the canopy (a raised canopy will
act as a sail in windy weather).
Rules on-board the liferaft
smoking may provoke seasickness and
increase thirst. smoking and other use of
open fire on-board the liferaft will increase
the risk of damage.
let the most experienced person take
command of the liferaft and determine
the rules. However, a few things are worth
mentioning:

it is important to maintain discipline
under the appointed leader.
the emergency may cause some
passengers to go into shock, but it is
the leader's duty to make it clear to
everyone that the situation is far from
hopeless, and also to emphasise that
the liferaft is designed and equipped
especially for such a situation.
should get an overview of the inside
layout and functions of the liferaft.
will distribute drinking water, rations,
count passengers and evaluate any
injuries etc.
should set up a "watch turn" to keep
a constant watch for vessels or
aeroplanes.
should set up a "bailing turn" to baile
out all water from the floor of the life raft
as quickly as possible and regularly
remove condensed water from the floor
with the sponge to keep the liferaft as
dry as possible. Use the bailers and
sponges found in or near the emer-
gency pack.
